Please don't bash me or get shocked Shocked like how could I consider such a thing. This is a chance for me to gain understanding of what we all seem to do for Pesach.

DC are small enough that they play mainly on the floor. I don't really consider my floor a chometz free zone. Why then do I have to do more than just remove visible chometz from toys. What am I really gaining by soaking them in the bathtub or throwing them in the washer?

Thanks for the (gentle) enlightenment

You don't. But you might want to wash bears etc or things they put in their mouths.
Often, throwing something in the washer is just so much easier than wiping something off block by block.

Maybe the theory is "well, it really should get a good cleaning at least once a year, and just before Pesach is as good a time as any"?

Yep! I do go by that philosophy most of the time, as I see how good my cleaning is during the rest of the year (NOTTTTT). Laughing
BUT only if I have enough time.

not shocked at all; essentially you're right. But we do our hishtadlus and then can ask Hashem to help us with whatever else is out of our hands.

precisely.
although if they're items with lots of intricate nooks and crannies, the best thing to do would be to put them away with the chometz, anyway for religious purposes. you might still want to give 'em a good bath for hygienic purposes.

it's the same deal with silver and stuff--tarnish isn't chometz, but if I'm already messing around kashering the bechers and whatnot, I may as well polish them.
