when you see your neighbours ahead of you ei changed over and cooking even before you finished the cleaning??

it used to bother me alot but now I do what is best for me... personally I prefer to change over after bedikas chametz.. it's better for me and not home for seder anyways... mil does the sam ething.

3 years ago I tried changing over earlier and it was a disaster.. I decided that it's better to take the kids out to pizza a once ina blue moon treat taht they don't get often.

one neighbour was tellingme that year that she was already cooking 32 days.. but giving her kids pitta at teh same time ( I assume in idsposables...) and last yerar she boasted taht she cooked shabbos pesachdik.. and this year she's boasting again.. I don't really care any more.. ie ;let her dow hat she wants but um some how I'm not sure how smart she is with pesach food and pitta....

what I do care is that my yenterish downstairs neighbour will drivce me nuts when she's already started cooking and heaven help if some thing will fall to her garden even if it's kitnios cookies.... or pesach noodles as happened one year...

Some people drive themselves nuts. Who says you have to eat Pesach food for weeks before Pesach? I never let myself get pressured by where others are up to, I have my pace. I find it more relaxing to start later and not be a nervous wreck.

R' Blumenkrantz z"tzl used to say that you should make two lists....one should be titled WHAT I REALLY NEED TO DO FOR PESACH ACCORDING TO THE TORAH, the other WHAT I WANT TO DO ACCORDING TO MY STANDARDS OF CLEANLINESS...then tear the page and put away the second half...when you calmly finish the NEED side, you can find the other half and work on that!

I realized that I didn't answer the question. I don't care what the Cohens are up to in their pesach cleaning, because if I wanted to, I also can be finished a month before pesach, but I chose/choose (which one? I think the screen is frying my mind a little) not to.

seriously, last year our whole house was gluten free and turning over the kitchen was easy. I checked and swept but there wasn't any chametz anyway. This year is normal but my kids are almost 7 and I don't tend to find chametz squished anywhere. I just did a few rooms upstairs today but I could've done it even quicker if I didn't organize as much. I can't imagine turning over the kitchen that much earlier than necessary, we'll be out for shabbos and the seder and why do you need to cook/bake so much? Even when I have everyone here (parents/mil/guests) I try to keep it simple. I just don't have koach this year to do anything more than exactly necessary. It's hard not to think that I'm being a little too relaxed though, I'll probably be rushed later...

Two good things in my community:
- there are so many levels, origins and minhagim that we can't compare really
- we don't really know, look or care

really...I used to hear it quite often (I'm not from there, but lived there for some years.)

Ok, a link of one use of the word from the BBC..
