Too many threads about disgusting drunks, I would love to her some nice stories about cute, funny, or endearing things that you saw drunk men d
I was at a seuda in yerushalayim on shushan purim and there was this guy there that when he was drunk, he had to learn. He got so upset if anyone would take the gemara away from him; he would start crying "But I need to learn!" But then he'd squint into it and say "Its hard to see whats here. Its hard to learn and figure out what its saying because I'm so drunk." And all the while he was holding a plastic chair over his head.

My husband, while drunk, does lots of funny and endearing stuff. He becomes a daredevil acrobat, doing splits abd backbends and flips and climbing trees and climbing on top of sukkas... So thats the funny part.
The endearing is that yesterday he was sitting in a recliner looking half asleep from being drunk but was singing tikun haklali, rabbi nachmans special tfill combination... And he was giving ashlag brachos of "that you should be zoche to be misgaber on your ratzon likabel and just have a ratzon lihashpia al minat likabel" and sharing divrei torah with anyone he saw on the street, with such amkus...

And also, one guy was trying to teach an unmarried guy all about the mitzva of "visimachta es ishtecha", making your wife happy, and the second insisting that the way to make a woman happy is to buy her chocolate because that solves all a womans problems... It was a whole long involved debate but it was really funny to watch.

I"m not surprised you're not getting alot of responses to this thread, Breslov...first of all, not many women are thrilled about their husbands drinking and those of us who don't mind so much don't see what happens at their seudas.

At least you have a good attitude about it.

Not so endearing but kind of cute in a scary way, my three year old came up to me one Shabbos morning and said "I made kiddush, Ima, " he was dizzy and falling all over himself and smelled of wine. I ran into the dining room and saw I had left the kiddush wine on the table and he had spilled it all over. He fell asleep on the couch and told a frum neighbor of mine, asking if I should take him to the emergency room, but got annoyed when she wouldn't stop laughing Evil or Very Mad Laughing (now I think it is kind of funny since nothing bad happened b'h)

Anyway, he just slept the whole day and had a hangover the next. I guess because he just had his upsherin he thought not only did he have to wear tzitztit and kippah he also had to start making kiddush Laughing

We hid the wine after that...and now we dafka get very very light wine just in case...

And I think at least half the time the guys make their drunkenness up. The laughs and attention they get is just what they need.

Yeah that was good. Most of them were crazy but even the crazy ones have some good lines. There was a guy here completely plastered, but everytime he passed my baby he put his hand on her head and mumbled "yiverecha H' viyishmirecha yaer.." etc Smile

We had a bochur at ours who got really sick and vomited and in between vomits he said- even though I feel really sick, I would do it all again to feel that close to Hashem.

That being said- I don't think anyone needs to drink to the point of vomit to get close to Hashem. People just don't know when to stop. I also have never found anyone drunk to be "cute." I view it as a necessary part of the Purim that I have to experience and I deal with, the clean up and relax until the next one comes around.

So I have seen funny drunks and at times special things have been said by drunks, but not cute drunks.

I'm sorry, I find nothing cute, funny or endearing about a drunk person of either gender, and looking for cutesy drunk stories just perpetuates and encourages a reprehensible practice. last time I checked, getting shikker was a) a very unJewish thing to do and b) not one of the 4 mitzvos connected to Purim. Ad D'lo Yada can be fulfilled in more acceptable ways, such as taking a nap.

Actually, ad delo yada is best fulfilled drinking wine. Taking a nap is a bidieved solution for those unable to drink wine.
At least as far as my orthodox rav told us. But you ask your LOR and tell me if he paskens differently.

The reason why they drink is to make you happy- yayin misameachl levav enosh and honestly, sleeping doesnt make you the same kind of happiness.

Of course, with anything, there are limits. But to relegate a special purim minhag because there are some people who do it not so well, is the same, imo of abolishing mishloach manos because some people go overboard with them.

Says who? Which rav? Sefer? Chazal?
Its very unchristian, so if you're talking about mormons and sobriety, maybe. But we're talking about a religion that says you're supposed to have wine every shabbos, 4 cups of wine at the seder, and drink on purim. "En simcha ela basar viyayin".
in fact, I think this attitude is a christian attitude that has crept its way into torah homes.

To refrain completely may be a Christian or Muslim belief...but there were some Nazarites among the Yidden...(I guess this is the exception that proves the rule that drinking in moderation was okay by YIdden)

However, I have heard often how typical it is for a gentile to be drunk and that it is goyische to get drunk...but since one should drink on Purim (men of course) Purim seems to be the exception to the ordinary rule that drinking excessively is goyishe.

Two things- a nazir had to bring a korban chatas when he was done with his nezirus.

also, a nazir didnt cut his hair. are we to learn from that that men having long hair is the accepted jewish way?

ok. which is why I was just pointing out (to no one specific) that a nazir shouldnt prove that sobriety is the jewish way.

Yep, there's even an expression "shikker iz ah gentile." Jews are not teetotalers but we take pride in the perception (which this forum has blasted to smithereens) that Jews drink in moderation and eschew drunkenness.

Yes, yayyin yesamach levav enosh, but that's drinking in moderation to the point of being cheerful, not to the point of rolling under the table and vomiting on the floor. If a person has reason to believe that drinking will make him behave in an unseemly manner, he's supposed to refrain.

Breslov Thumbs Up

There are many Chassidishe stories about great Chassidim who were shikker and did not act disgusting, violent, etc. and used their shikker state to get closer to Hashem.

Yeah I agree with breslov and GR. Its said "nichnas yayin yotze sod" "adam nikar bikoso.." etc, you can see a persons true essence when they are drunk by a yid it can be beautiful, and when people talk about non jews becoming drunk (stereotype arguments in a different thread please!!) they are reffering to the violence coming forth.

While I didn't exactly enjoy looking after drunk guys in my house, I still think it was beautiful to see my husband and others hugging everyone who came in our door.

when a jew becomes drunk he connect to HKBH bc he has no inhibitions, most jewish men I see when they are drunk they still speak of Hashem and his greatness.A gentile when he is drunk becomes mean, violent etc and no mention of Hashem.
cute is when no matter how drunk they are they still try and be a ben torah, that's what's cute
