My nutritionist was talking about Pam... she just gives a spritz of pam here, and there... etc.

I didn't want to expose my ignorance Embarassed so I didn't ask her, and I knew I could rely on all the Imamothers out there to fill me in.

I googled it, and I got to a sight, I think Pam4you.com... or something like it. I see there it's an oil spray, that could be used for cooking, baking, etc.

Question: How does it differ from the regular Tannug cooking sprays? And, does it need or have a hechsher?!

Thanks to all!

Pam has an OU and its probably the same as Taanug, which is probably the Heimishe version.

Pam is OU. You can get it at any supermarket in the oil section. In my kosher supermarket, there are about 5 different brands and 20 different varieties. They are all about the same. Some use different oils, some have flour mixed it to use for baking, etc. Check the label, but they're usually about the same and there's not really any calories in a little spray. BUT, if you use a big spray or course it's more. But it's still better than just pouring oil. When I lived in a different area, I got Pam because that's what they had. Now, I buy the heimishe brand because it's a little cheaper.

Check the hashgacha, though, because some types can be dairy.

Oil is oil. The idea behind Pam was that because it's in a spray form, you're less likely to use too much, than if you would pour it from a bottle. But a tablespoon of Pam (or any other oil spray), has the same number of calories as a tablespoon of oil from a bottle.
Pam, however, is far more expensive per ounce. I used to buy oil, and transfer it to a spray bottle. The best of both worlds.
