I am supposed to start a new job tomorrow and ds has strep. Just got a note on Fri from ds school that kids keep coming in with strep to please keep them home until fever is gone. It looks really bad if I put off first day of work. WWYD? (Dh has to go to client tomorrow-not an option and parents and inlaws b'h work)

Why don't you give your boss the heads up that you are looking for alternate child-care arrangements as your son is sick, and you hope it will work out, but there may be a possibility of you being unable to make it. That way they know what's going on and if you do have to miss the first day, they may be more understanding.

Bad idea. The new boss doesn't want a megillah, s/he justs wants the new employee there on the first day of work. Try to find a neighbor or babysitter to watch your son. Best of luck! Being a working mom is tough!

Can you ask a mother of another classmate of his who's home with the same thing to watch your child? Considering the circumstances, it is a reasonable request. Good luck!

OP, I feel for you, that must be a tough one. Hope this is not too late.
I'm with others that I'd be very very very loathe to miss/be late on the first day of work.

Firstly, does your child have fever? If the school policy is about kids with streps and fever and if your child does not, can't you send him to school?

Where is your DH?

If you are in NY, there is an emergency/last minue babysitting service company. (I think it's Absolute Best Care.) Hope your DS feels better. It's expensive (possibly as much as half a day of work!) but for appearances' sake, you want to be there on the first day.

Thanks fro your replies everyone. Since the note sent home was schoolwide, I don't know who has strep or not. I looked into Absolute Best Care which is an option. I'm hoping my cousin will babysit. Although my son does not have fever anymore he has a weak immunity due to a heart condition. it takes him awhile to regain his strength so I am more comfortable keeping him home an extra day.
