Ds has little spot (about the size of a quarter) 2 of them, that I think are eczema. The doc said to just cream him a lot because he has dry skin, but these patches aren't going away. Dh had horrible eczema as a child, so I think he's taking after him.

Any ideas what to put on them? I

There are several creams on the market which work well and are nonsteroidal for eczema -- dh and 3 of my kids (and me) all have eczema and we like one called Protopic. It is by prescription. I don't know if what the minimum age is for the medicine, though.

DS3 had major eczema until age 5. We used Elidel (not a steroid) most of the time for scaly patches and to prevent it too. We also used Wescort (Hydrocortisone Valerate) when it flared up for up to 5 days and then switched over to Elidel. Also, we always creamed him up like you do. Didn't really make a difference which cream we used, but we always put it on - morning and evening - to help prevent it. Still, he got plenty of eczema, and sometimes it got really bad, especially when it got realy cold or really hot.
Out of curiosity, how old is your child? (Sorry, I'm not looking at the post and don't remember if it was a boy or girl!) Also, did you consider allergy testing? We didn't, but I'm curious about other pediatricians' opinions. Ours delt that unless it was disturbing his life, finding the allergens (a) could be a needle in a haystack, and (b) might just make his life more difficult because he probably well grow out of it.

Ds is 19 mths, but there are lots of allergies in my dh's family. Dh was allergic to pretty much everything as a child and still has allergies to all nuts, seeds, etc.

So far, I think that ds is allergic to sesame and mango.

As far as I know Protopic and Elidel were removed from the market 2 yrs ago because they were link to THE disease.
I know first hand because my son and I used to use them.
I think for a small patch 1% OTC hydrocortisone OINTMENT for a few days may work and not do much damage. Apply the ointment right after the bath within 3-5 minutes while the skin is still moist and apply a second layer of AQUAFOR or vaseline. Keep doing the Aquafor all through the winter.
If you are in Europe or Argentina, there is a cream called Aderma that works beautifully, I use it and I have a bad case of psoriasis.

cortisones/creams just cover up an internal problem. the eczema on the skin shows you what is going on inside the body too so getting rid of it on the surface will not get you a relaxed/calm kid. their insided bother them.
the source of the problem is usually allergies. blood tests and other basic tests will not show you all allergies. they are very limited testing. you need to find a way to do thorough and accurate testing. make sure to test also for dust, pollen, mold, detergent, cloth materials, cleaning products, shampoos, creams etc. besides for all foods.
their are a few ways to get accurate testing. some I read about first from posters on imamother. for my son I ended up using a bicom machine (magnetic testing) which found over 20 allergies!. with blood test testing, I could have never found out all his allergies. Their are also ways to remove or lesson some allergies. I encourage eveyone with eczema to do more reasearch. most pediatricians are unfamiliar.

I'm going to my medicine cabinet and throwing out my protopic (an older tube which I was using). It's scary to think about. For minor flareups in ds and dd, I will stick to either OTC cortaid or the Aquaphor.
