Please let me know your experiences with both machines I have a kitchenaid pro 6qt and dough has to be divided in 2 batches.

If I change machine I would like to know your recommendations.

Please answer

and I hate the bosch for challah - I find it so hard to clean - there are so many crevices for the dough to get stuck to.
my mother had a kitchen aid and I still miss it when making challah

The trick to cleaning the Bosch is you have to use toothpicks. The dough really gets stuck underneath. Before Peasach you really have to make sure to clean it well.

If I were buying or winning such a machine, I'd want one with a motor strong enough to mix enough challah to take challah with the bracha, at one time.

Since I have not been able to buy or win one, I stick with my bread machine, which makes enough in two batches, mixes and kneads for me, and was very inexpensive.

I personally would stick to the kitchen aid ... much easier to make 2 batches and be happy ...

I can make one 14-cup batch with my kitchenaid and it's easy to clean.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. My friend has the magic mill, and I used it once and it's a beautiful machine. I ended up getting the bosch, though, because it's lighter in weight, and I have to shlep it up from the basement each time I use it. You have to watch the bosch closely, though, because it can "walk". IIRC, you can set up the mm and leave it because it will never do that.

my breadmachine never walks. I love the challa it makes as well. And it is so easy to clean. I am in the kitchen most of friday anyway, so I don't mind making a few batches, and I can keep them in the fridge if I want to take challa.

I have a magic mill and I like it. I think the most important thing, regardless of which machine you buy, is that you buy it from someone reputable who will stand by the product should it not function as you expect.
my MM stopped working properly after a few uses and I had alot of trouble getting the vendor to fix it. finally I went into another store to buy a bosch and the vendor (NOT the one I bought the MM from) took out a screw driver and fixed my broken machine for me. so I'd buy from him next time (Sterling Electronics in Cedarhurst for anyone who is interested).

Is the magic mill easy to clean? Besides Challah does it mix other things well? What else do you use it for ...was Bosch a consideration or you went straight to the magic mill?

Thanks,

the bosch has a new mixer with a heavy bottom so that it does not move on the countertop. I don't think that they sell the old one anymore. It's heavier but safer. If you are buying the bosch I would say get it.

I've heard excellent stories about Kitchen Aid fixing machines that were past warranty or giving new machines that I think I'd want to go with them even if meant making two batches and putting them together.

In real life though, I knead by hand and now that I'm used to it I'm not kvelling so much for a stand mixer. Especially since the storage space is non existent and it's an expensive item.

the magic mill is extremely easy to clean.
theoretically it can be used to mix anything, and comes with a hook for dough and other parts for mixing cakes. practically speaking though, unless you are making a HUGE batch of cookies or tripling a cake, it's not the best mixer for such things. but I might be biased, my cake attachment never fit properly, and I'm too cheap to buy another one. well, cheap and stubborn, I still think the person I bought it from should replace it for me at no charge.

one thing that irritates me about the MM, I have to lightly beat the egg before I put it in or the yolk floats around for the longest time. it eventually gets mixed in, but it bothers me. not a big deal though.

I give a big vote for kenwood. I know no one mentioned it until now, but I bake a ton and I have mine for nearly 8 years now, and I love it. It has a big bowl, but I prefer to do a big batch of challah in 2 rounds since it mixes easier and faster.

I have a magic mill, it works great on challah, I put in all the ingrediants and just let it go and I get perfect dough everytime. I rarely use it for cakes and cookies because its very heavy Id rather use a bowl and a wisk.
