is there an inyan to wear tzitzis untucked?
my husband's always worn his out his whole life, but recently started tucking them in, as he says they get in the way. (he likes to have things on his belt hanging).
it bothers me that hes doing this, as its going hand in hand with a general slide downwards in frumkeit of his...
so I asked him why hes not keeping them out anymore, and he said theres no reason to keep them out.
I said "u're'isem oso" from shema, and he said he sees them when he makes the bracha, and anyhow tzitzis are only a voluntary mitzva that yidden took on, so it doesnt really matter if they're tucked in or out.
so I need sources- where is it brought down to untuck tzitzis
btw its also minhag hamakom here, as well as his family's minhag to untuck.
I know there are sources that say to tuck- but thats not how his family and our community holds, so those arent the sources I'm seeking.
thanks!

it's a hidur, not halacha. Sfardim are even against it.
If you see there's a general downhill slide, try to remember that you're not his rav or mashpia - try to love him and value his good qualities - and daven.

I didnt ask for that.
we're not sfardi. it is his minhag.
I just wanted sources for it.
thank you.
I do value him and the issue in this post isnt his slide.
I'm just looking for sources.

I know you asked for sources and not an opinion but I'll give you mine anyway.
If his tzitzis getting tucked in came together with an overall downhill slide you are not going to get him to "fix" by bringing tzitzis sources.
Maybe talking to him about what he is feeling right now and "getting" him will help. To show him even though this that and the other, its about serving g-d.
Second amother - I think everyone knows that tzitzis tucking in or out is not a mitzvah, just a choice/thing/hiddur/opinion, but if their whole community does one thing, it doesn't make the dw feel better to have her grown dh acting outright as a rebel.

I dont think its a minhag at all.
my fil wears them out, but my dh wears them tucked in. he is a very neat, put together type of guy and says that tzitzis out make him feel sloppy.
maybe in yeshiva/kollel it is a peer pressure thing. my father wears them in, my brother likes to be the same as the kids in his class and wears them out.
no one can say you are less frum for tucking them in. its simply a matter of preference.
btw, there is an issue/halacha of not letting the tzitzis strings touch skin. so if they are tucked in, u have to make sure that they are rolled/folded up in such a way that they dont.

Funny cuz my son just turned three and started wearing tzitis and I like it out and my husband doesn't and I never even knew there's an inyan to have them out
Here's the source you might be looking for
השולחן ערוך (ח יא): 'עיקר מצות טלית קטן ללובשו על בגדיו כדי שתמיד יראהו ויזכור המצות'
Shulchan Aruch (8/11) "The main point of the mitzva of tzitis is to wear it over his clothes so he shuld aways see them and remember the mitzvos"
It goes on but it seems there are different minyhagim as was pointed out in previous posts - Ashkenzim generally hold to wear a shirt over the tzitzis but take out the string part.
This is all very NEW to me
Will let you know if I see more.
(and I agree with amother that finding the sorce for this and even getting him to tuck them back out will not keep him frummer - sorry 4 my 2sense)

I have seen Ashkenazim and Sefardim of all kinds with the tzitzis showing or not. In France I notice it's generally the younger and more modern crowd that wears them showing the strings. _________________
