| |
Years ago I made a spice apple recipe that was pretty much apples sliced with sugar and spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, etc. I found this recipe somewhere and served it hot with ice cream to a meal with bochurim and they devoured it. I would love such a recipe now, I've been making a apple crisp type of thing and serving it hot with ice cream, but now, we are trying to lose weight so I am looking for a recipe that uses just apples and no crumbs on top (which are made with margarine!)
Anyone know of any recipe? _________________ proud_mama

I found this through google
BAKED APPLE SLICES
2 lb. tart apples
1/3 c. raisins
1/3 c. brown sugar
1 c. warm water
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 tsp. cinnamon
Cut apples in quarters; peel, core, and slice them. Place apples in 2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle with a few raisins in between. Dissolve brown sugar in small amount of warm water; add remaining water and spices. Pour liquid over apple slices. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. 8 servings.
1 serving equals 106 calories or 2 1/2 fruit exchanges

| Thanks, I will try this recipe this shabbos, before I try it for guests on Rosh Hashana. The recipe I made years ago did not have raisans, I think I will try it without the raisans since I am not too crazy about raisans.

you don't need a real recipe ... just add sugar & spice and everything nice ... your apples will be happy ... _________________ don't wonder why people go crazy ... rather wonder why we don't

Careful - from what I recall, you shouldn't serve hot dessert with icecream on Shabbos, as the dessert is "gush" and you could be "cooking" the icecream. _________________ If you want something done, ask a busy person!

If you don't mind finding a source, I would appreciate it as I always serve hot desserts with ice cream on Shabbos and never thought it could be a problem.

I have a great recipe.
Core apples. Add some raisins or craisins inside (optional) sprinkle with cinnamon. POur a can of Diet Dr. Pepper on top and bake. (I bake about 45 min spooning the sauce over the apples a couple of times)

I asked Dh and he said you were right. He said I have to make sure the ice cream and hot dessert don't touch or it could be problematic. Why he never told me this in 4 yrs of marriage, I don't know!

The YUMMIEST baked apple recipe that I've tried is:
1- peel apples and scoop out just the top of the core
2- coat the apple in oil (or water if you are being health conscious)
3- Mix 1/4 C ground walnuts, 1C sugar, 4 teaspoons of vanilla sugar and lots of cinnamon together in a bowl.
4- Roll apples around in the mixture until coated
5- Place in a foil pan and bake at 300 degrees for 2hrs, until really soft.
6- serve warm
