First episode? If yes then then I would set up serious cosequence & go speak to therapist. If this is a continuing problem & you have done the psyc route & the child still threatens violence, I would sooner have him in a psyc hospital than arrested. What help would he get there?

I have but not at every incident - sometimes I find that the police only fine the parent or the parents end up having to go to court for a hearing while still having the aggressive teen in their home - how ironic that is. Now when it really gets life threatening there is no choice and the police are the only route to take. If the teen is that out of control make sure they come with ambulance for emotionally unstable person. And just to be sure teens are very wise and can easily turn it around on the parents being "abusive" - that too only exacerbates the issue further.
