What do all of you use for a diaper pail?
I use one that is sealed and I individually bag dirty diapers in a sealed plastic bag before putting it into the pail.
However, the pail REALLY stinks. I've used kitty litter, I've used baking soda, I've aired it out, only to have it smell the next day. I don't really want to use the spray lysol a)because I'm really allergic to sprays and b) I'd happen to open the entire top every time I put a diaper in (when you have a diaper you put it in the top and flip a handle and it goes in)
The problem is ds' room stinks and I don't want him breathing in the stench.
The worst happened a couple of days ago, when I opened the pail to empty it out and there were bugs in the bag with the diapers flying around!!!
So, what do you do? I don't really want to get the diaper genie because it's expensive and it's really not good for the environment, but at this rate, I'm willing to try anything.
So ladies, my dh said to post my problem. What do you think? _________________ Just Plain Frum!

I just use a plain old kitchen bin with a flip top. We keep the lid closed and empty it is needed. It is kept in the bathroom with the window open rather than in the bedroom.
ETA: We usually empty it every 2-3 days. We do NOT individually bag diapers. If there's a particularly offensive diaper, we just take it straight out. _________________ Emmanuel Tzvi: 26 Shevat 5766

You don't mention how often you empty the pail...
I have a small pail with a lid that seals it and it's lined with a small garbage bag. I generally change the bag every 3 days, certainly no longer than 4 days.
Maybe sprinkle cinnamon powder into the bottom of the pail with baking soda? _________________

| Teatree oil and baking soda will keep the smell in check, but you have to empty the pail every day or two or just about anything is going to stink.

I keep a garbage bag (that can be pulled tight with the strings) in my laundry room and put wet diapers inside and dirty's get tied up in a plastic bag first and then thrown in there. the big bag gets thrown out when it gets full which is every couple days. it's out of the way so I don't smell it and I don't have to worry about stinky pails.
thanks to my MIL for this! (she thought of it when she came to visit after my ds was born)

I usually empty the pail once or twice a week which would be fine if the stinkin' contraption worked. I searched everywhere for it when ds was born b/c a friend had it and it's ok for shabbos.
I would like to get rid of it and just have a tiny one that's emptied every night, but dh doesn't want the hassle of that....hmm, maybe I'll just empty it every night.

Thats what I do also. I gave up on diaper pails when I had 2 in diapers. _________________ Boy 10, Boy 8, Girl 7, Boy 5, Boy 3, Boy 15 months

We have the Diaper Champ. I'm very pleased with it.
I felt it was a splurge when I bought it, but it's been worth it.
It uses normal garbage bags.

| That's the one I have!!! I have the diaper champ! It totally doesn't work or my little ds has potent diapers. How old is your child cat? It was ok until he was really eating food, but then stinky!

He's just about 8 months.
It's gotten stinkier. There was one day recently that it had to be taken out because his whole room was smelly. But generally it is fine.
I wouldn't switch to another of the same sort (ie diaper genie)...I expect you will still have issues.
There were lots of comments on the diaper champ that once the diapers get really smelly, no diaper pail can handle it.
How could bugs/flies get in there?? _________________

| Flush the stool and you will have less of an issue.

| Ewww, I don't know how bugs got in there and honestly, I don't want to know. It's not airing out outside...as for your son being 8 mths - just wait. At 8 mths what they eat is so different from what they eat at 16 mths. The daiperpail is not going to be able to handle it.
