| |
| My baby is less than 6 months old and I noticed a bump on his head, like the side of his head next to his eye. I am not sure if it was there since birth but I noticed it for the last 2 or 3 wks. I went to the dr on tue and he said it looks like he bumped himself and if it's still there in a week to come back. I know he didnt bump himself and I told him it's been there at least 2 wks anyway but he said to wait the wk. That was on Tue and it's still surely there and I am really stressing.

| he may have easily bumped himself when you weren't looking, even though you're no doubt a super mom. I watch my kids so carefully and they are still always getting little bumps and weird things. I know it's so stressful, but try to keep cool 'cause it's like 99.999999 % fine. and your doc said to come back if it's still there. as long as the baby is acting fine, eating/drinking/sleeping...pupils look normal, etc then I would just monitor it, and say a few extra Tehillim cause it only helps!

| But he implied if it was a bump it would be away by next wk (one wk from when he was seen) but I know the bump has been there close to 3 wks, at least.

is he acting normal? eating/drinking normally? if so, watch it another few days.
otherwise, if it's been 3 weeks and your mommy radar is really beeping incessantly make an appt tomorrow early! tell them it's really important. at any rate, you'll feel better to get the good news that all is well. and if it does need attn you'll be happy you didn't wait any longer.
pls post your update

Insist that they take you seriously!
Your "moomy radar" may be right!
The worst that can happen is you will turn out to be a careful caring mother and your baby is fine.
I would insist on further testing!
3 wks is a long time!
I hope we hear good news!
Who knows maybe it will dissapear overnight.

Is it possible that it could be one of the baby's fontanelles? The soft spots that haven't closed yet? If it looks like one of these I wouldn't delay in pressing the matter. You are his mother. Sometimes we know when things aren't right. Be calm because it probably isn't anything but it is best to be certain. _________________ "I think there is normal crazy and crazy crazy. | Its in the "sphenoid" place but why would a fontanelle bulge out?

I'm not saying that this is what it is, but my nephew had something that sounds similar. But his Doctor picked up on it the secnod he saw it, so if your doctor didn't then its probably not the same thing. The doctor said it was a cyst. WHen the baby if forming sometimes miscallaneus waste material gets trapped inside where bones form and form cysts. Right next to the eye is a very very common place for this to happen. Its really nota big deal, and even if it is a cyst the doctors wont do anything about it unless its getting bigger. My nephew is now 15 months KAH and you can't even notice it anymore, it was much more noticable when he was a little baby.
Anyways, I'm not saying this is what it is, but you can ask your Doctor if he thinks that is what it is.

| Certain things can cause a fontanelle to bulge out. I know that dehydration in an infant can be one cause. I am sure that wouldn't be the case with yours. There are other reasons too. You could look them up on the web. I just remember running into a woman whose son had that problem and remember that it was important to notice it right away. Like was said, your doctor probably would have noticed it. My point was that doctors are human and can make mistakes. If you are concerned it doesn't hurt to ask.

So, how do you know that one of the other kids is not implicated in this?

| bc the other one is very little and very gentle. He is scared to not be gentle. One time he totally by accident brushed against the baby too roughly and when he noticed his entire face fell bc he thought he hurt the baby. I am totally not worried about that.

ask the doctor again since it did not go away in the time he suggested ... also could the baby have hit his head on the side of the crib ... err in the side of caution ... _________________ don't wonder why people go crazy ... rather wonder why we don't

| Anything is possible but #1 I didnt hear him cry there, #2 3 wks (at least) is a long time to have a bump from hitting one's head anywhere (which I dont think happened.) I'm going to make an apptmt for Tue/Wed - a wk since I last went.

I think that is the best idea OP... let us know what happens. _________________ But then again, I'm a dragon.

| maybe its a hemangioma (not sure how to spell it). ask the doctor. they are not dangerous, but depending on the type may need to be treated with steroids to make sure it doesnt grow too large near a major organ (such as the eye).

Steroids in a little baby?
And arent hemangiomas colored?
In any case, we'll need to see what it is first.

| Yes they are colored. My DD had one, they are reddish. How big is the bump? Can you compare it to a coin maybe?
