When did you start solids?

I'm wondering if we should start solids already. My baby is 4.5 months. I wanted to wait a bit, but I'm worried that my milk has dropped off a bit since I went back to work, and I'm worried he's not getting enough to eat.

A week shy of 6 months. It was time when he started waking up every 2 hours to eat during the night...until then he had been sleeping 8 hours straight.

first baby eight months, second six, and waiting to see when this one will decide he needs more food. Smile

I only started one at 9 months the other 2 after they turned one. each child has different needs, if you see he/she's unhappy and seems to be hungry and asking (when they're a bit older they do that) then you start. I don't do always what the chart says to do

Glad to see I'm not the only one whose choice didn't appear on the poll - seems no one else's did either! I started my children at 7 mos. - would've been happy to wait another month or two, but that was when they started to seem hungry! (I.e. Wanting to nurse every hour!)

cat, you didn't say why you think he isn't getting enough. If you have reason to think so, ask your pediatrician if he should be getting more and if you should start solids or supplement with formula.

At 4 months I was told by my Doctor to start my baby on solids after doing so my baby has been sleeping much better.

at 3 mths I went back to work and was pumping. at 6 mths I couldn't get enough pumping to satisfy him so I started solids once a day at the sitter. we did this a few more months or maybe until a year (I don't remember), then we started more full time solids.

Yeah, I think we need to add some poll options Smile

DD started accepting tiny bits of food at 8 months but only showed a real interest in food when she passed her first b-day. Even then, she mainly nursed.

I start when the baby wants to eat my food. Within reason, of course.

my first two I started the day they turned 4 months!!! My oldest...when I started feeding her at 4 months..she was soooooo ready!!! she was a very alert baby from very early and approx. 2 1/2 months old she would watch me and dh eat, to the point we felt bad eating in front of her!!! (a 2 1/2 month old!!!) anyway, she ate from that baby spoon pretty much right away. she got it after a few times !

I heard solids doesnt have anything to do with sleeping better at night. its just that if ure baby is hungry and not getting enough milk it can help cuz theyll be less hungry, but if they are getting ehough milk, solids do not help slpee.

I started the baby jars with Sruli as soon as I started to feel guilty - which his pediatrician suggested. He's 6 months now, and I've been giving them to him for about a month or so.

I clicked 3 months bec. it was 3� months when I started DS.
He had reflux so the doctor told us to start him on solids.

My older son was 7 months...this one I wanted to hold off, but he seems pretty interested. He picked up a cheerio off the floor yesterday that my toddler dropped, but I took it away from him as I am not letting him eat honey nut cheerios!
H'es 6.5 months now, and I may just give in to his wishes and let him try to eat something on his own.
