I have very thick hair naturally and I'm having a lot of trouble getting it under my sheitel, especially if I want it to be at all comfortable and not to leave a huge bump. It's not super long, about shoulder length but just really thick. Any suggestions for putting my hair up under my sheitel?

Hi, What I did was make 6 braids and wound them and fastened them with a bobbie pins. This worked well because on my first day in Brooklyn long ago I lost my sheitel when I came to a corner. My sheitles always had the net cap so I could really fasten it on using the secured braides under. No bumps. Smile

I make a low pony, spread my hair out and then pin it up. This works for me. Because the pony is low I don't have a bump.

You can also try making 2 ponies, one on each side so that you're separating the thick hair, & then pin each side up. Good luck.

This sounds like the best option. The braiding thing sounded way to complicated and time consuming. Also, braids arent flat. How would that produce a flat effect?

When I get my hair cut professionally I have them thin it. I do it like once a year makes a huge difference. I have friends who chemically relax their hair to deal with this problem.

I use a stocking cap - its like a swimming cap but made out of stocking material - so the hair is all over my head, hence no bump. You can purchase these cheaply in most beauty supply stores, African hairdressers/stores, or drugstores.

I use 3 large barrettes so my hair hugs my head. These barrettes are slightly curved and are about 3.5 inches. I use one at the base of my hair to make a low pony. The curve faces out so that when I flip my hair, it is against my scalp. I use the next two to anchor the pony to my head. The pony is flat with no bumps.
