Easy upsherin menu

I'd like to make a party for my son's upsherin, but don't want to spend too much, and I'm too busy to prepare an elaborate feast. We were thinking of grilling franks but decided that theymay be too expensive. Any ideas? Milchigs or fleishigs. Thanks.

I made platters of egg salad, tuna salad, lox salad, and white fish salad along with rolls and veggie platter with dressing. I also had some cookies my sister made and some chips and pretzels.
It was around lunch time and this was easy to prepare before hand and not worry about serving people, everything was buffet style.

Pasta is cheep - and you can make some nice cheesy dish without much investment of money or time. Everyone enjoys it.

Or you can make mashed potatoes - with butter and maybe some fresh herbs.

That small kind of couscous is another really easy and cheep thing to prepare.

For a cheep easy protein, I suggest mushroom keish - you can even skip the crust to save money. Use canned mushrooms. This is a no fail recipe:
2 cans mushrooms (better to soute, but don't have to)
1 large onion (soute)
2 eggs
heaping TBS sour cream
salt & pepper
Bake on 350F
(you can also melt cheese on top)

An easy salad, some fruit, a cake.
