How do you get tzitzis strings really white?
I tried putting them in a jar with a little bleach and some water, but it seems like nothing's happening...

I can't tell you how to get them really white, but DON'T bleach them -- the bleach makes them brittle and causes them to break.

| The strings are wool and will be destroyed by chlorine bleach. Try soaking in lemon juice and laying them in direct sunlight to dry. If you can spread them on a bush or on a grassy lawn, so much the better--the chlorophyll is reputed to help whiten the fibers in some way, though that may be a myth. Or you can try soaking in Oxyclean but read the label--even Oxyclean may not be safe for wool.
