I don't think labor day will be so packed.
Its not bein hazmanim so no one in yeshiva will be there (its popular destination for the yeshiva crowd)
The boys schools is some communities already started school so they won't be going.

We went a few times labor day weekend (not anymore because our son is in school) and there were no crowds. My DH davened slichos in the Lancaster shul (in the evening) and he was one of the only out of town person there.

We got much better deals on hotels during labor day weekend then what you get smack in the middle of the busy summer.

We stayed in a Eden Resort villa and it was great. They also have 2 bedroom rooms. We booked it that day, they were half empty and the price was great. During the summer they are booked solid and about $200 more.
Its a good time to go to beat the crowds. But we found a lot of attractions were closed on labor day itself. We still found what to do, but make sure that what you want is open then.
