DH and I are thinking of going away for a night or two and leaving our ten month old with my parents, but I am a bit apprehensive. At what age do most people start leaving their baby with someone else overnight?
Thanks!

| The only time I left my ds was when I was hospitalized with my second. . . he was almost 2.5. Are you nursing?

| I've never left my kids overnight and my big ones aren't babies. you're lucky that you have close family that would agree to watch them!

| I think it depends on his relationship with your parents, and on his personality in general. Also, does he sleep through the night?

If the offer is sincere, I would take them up on it once I know that my baby will sleep through the night.
And I left my baby alone in the hospital when he was REALLY little.... But he's back with me now!

Obviously there's a range. I would never leave a "baby." But I left my oldest at 21 months to go deliver #2...I guess he was more of a toddler by then. I don't believe in intentionally leaving a child too young to comprehend that mommy and daddy went away and will be back a day or two. _________________ I'm not the popular Mama Bear. | I left my first at 8 months. I left her with my parents for 2 nights so we could go on vacation. She was sleeping through the night, not nursing anymore and very comfortable with my parents since we spend a lot of time there.

| The first time dh and I went away alone was when my second baby was 12 months. I was nursing but in desperate need of a get away!!! My amazing mother offered to watch my two kids even thou my baby was not sleeping thru the night yet.I brought my pump along and we were gone for exactly 13 hrs. 8 pm- 9 am.we went out for dinner and then to a hotel 20 min away from our home. Anon because im pretty sure my mom is on here.

| Wow I didn't realize people leave little infants for nights at a time to go on a vacation!! Yes, I sound judgmental but I'm shocked!! Someone please tell me this is not the norm...

| I would not leave a baby below 16-18 months even if I am not nursing.

Each of my kids went away for a FEW WEEKS after the birth of their younger siblings. And they were really young-barely out of infant-hood themselves.
Judge away.

| A 10 mo to grandparents sounds very safe and non-traumatic, if they have a comfortable relationship.

who said we left our children at such a young age for vacation. There about one thousand reasons why parents would leave their children overnight
