| |
We have a family friend who is in her eighties. BH she is still healthy enough to get around by herslef, but is otherwise elderly in the sense that she is old fashioned, and doesn't "need" anything for herself. She gives us gifts a lot, usually cash for the kids birthdays and othertimes little trinkets for the kids. I would like to give her something but can never think of what. So far we have bought her a couple of books we thought she would like, and a set of candles from the tzfat candle factory. What else can I buy an elderly woman? The usual gift suggestions I see here, like gift cards, vouchers for dinner, or manicure wouldn't work for her.
I am looking to spend around 100 NIS but am somewhat flexible if the right idea comes along.

Is she fond of music? What about perfume? Is there a charity that she is fond of where you could honor her? Or is it possible to take her out somewhere for a lovely meal? _________________ But then again, I'm a dragon.

| Good ideas, thanks! I think I will go with either the charity or with scarf/costume jewelry.

Time is the best gift.
Taker her to a museum and dinner, or a show/concert and dinner. _________________ Smiling Mom

If I were a healthy woman in her eighties, the best gift anyone could give me would be a homemade Shabbos or YT meal delivered to my door, or an invitation to eat at someone's house on Shabbos or YT, assuming they lived on the ground floor and within my walking distance.
I wouldn't object to such a gift right now, either, now that you mention it.

| BTW I find the title of this thread offensive. Few people care to be described as "old woman" and there's a connotation of disrespect in the expression. Call her elderly, call her an older person, call her a senior citizen or a golden ager, but for pete's sake don't call her an "old woman"!

Zaq, you are right. I must have been rushing when writing the original post.
Thanks for your ideas. SInce I live accross the ocean I can't take her out anywhere, but thinking along the same lines, I can make an effort to call more often.
