lev may have been going through some "growing pains" at the time. either way its a pretty nice school and sounds like it might work for you. check out those 2 schools. and maybe a couple of alternatives. PPY? Maybe maybe maybe even BYA since your sister already has kids in the school it might help your chances.

She did go to PPY from pre-1a till 2nd grade and then we moved. What also might help my chances about BYA is my sister lives near someone that has to do with the school and I know her too.

religiouswize, I don't have an accurate picture of who you or your daughter is since jpf means different things to everyone (everyone wants to think theyre middle of the road IYKWIM...)
if you say a little more about what you do for recreation, how you dress etc. we can give a more accurate recommendation
also, can't your sister who lives here recommend a school? she knows you better and also knows schools.

but there is a newish small warm school that wasn't mentioned 'B'nos yaacov'. I have close relative that goes and is wild about school! she loves going!. it's not so academic but more like chilled, not special ed. lots of extra curricula stuff too.
here is a list of schools in order (basically... don't shout if the order is not completely accurate) from very frum to more modern

YOB- yeshiva of brooklyn
bais yaacov boro park
bnos yaacov
d'rav meir, BYA
masores
lev bais yaacov, manhattan
prospect
shulamit

as mentioned above, the schools you listed are not mainstream.

I did ask her also, but she doesn't have any girls in high school.

no, separate schools but similar hashkafos. manhattan is very academic though.

Can you tell me about Bnos Yaakov?

it's a new small school. very warm, lot's of achdus. kids are JPF according to me. focus is more on hashkafa than on academics but the girls there are not slow in any way. they have lots of quizzes and not very many tests. very low pressure. hanhalla is very knowlegable. they have gym-sports, music-with instruments, second language, and classes about self improvement.

Where is Bnos Yaakov? I checked online and it seems like there's an elementary school also and it's on Harrison Ave. Is that it? Where is that? What neighborhood?

I think based on all your resposes and the fact that you are looking for something similar to Sara Schenirer h.s. (yes, I do remember it as a high school and knew many who went there), it would seem that the narrowed down suggestions would be: Lev Bais Yaakov, BYA, Bnos Yaakov (relatively new so not really 'sterotyped' fully yet), Bais Yaakov Oz V'Hadar (also still relatively new so not really settled into a 'stereotype' yet). Again, much hatzlacha.

Lev is in brooklyn. By manhattan she meant Manhattan High School, a small very academic school in manhattan.

Not like it makes any difference, but were they in Young Israel of Flatbush/Yeshiva of Flatbush? Where in boro park are they now. It doesn't say on their website.

I thank everybody a ton!! I really, really appreciate all the help everyone is giving me.

Now I have three schools I'm going to look more into and I also asked my sister to help me.
Bnos Yaakov, Lev Bais Yaakov, and Bais Yaakov Oz V'hadar.

From these three, which do you think would suit our hashkafa the best? If we go according to how we dress, then so be it. I wear denim skirts (a little too much Embarassed ) and with a slit, but not too high Wink . I cover my hair at all times outside the house and when other people are in my home either with a hat or sheital. I don't wear sheitals often because I'm more comfortable with hats. We do have a tv and of course internet. My dh does not wear a hat, unless you call a baseball cap a hat Laughing . He did before we got married because that's what his father does, but he wasn't really interested. He's not into the white shirt, black hat look. What else is there?

Why is no one mentioning Machon? I went there, and it was a great school.

If you have TV, wear slits, and your husband doesn't wear a white shirt and hat, I would say forget about Machon - totally wrong crowd. (Not to be offensive, just pointing out and helping you narrow down your list.)

B'nos Yakov was in Young Israel of Ave I. As I understand it they were started as a Flatbush school and that is the crowd they are trying to attract. I'm not sure why it didn't work out on Avenue I, but they are currently renting space in BY of Boro Park. When I went to their open house this past fall, they mentioned they are looking for space to move back to Flatbush, because it is a big tircha for the girls to shlep all the way to Boro Park from Flatbush and Marine Park.

Hope this helps a little. Seemed like very very nice people, and a good program.

It's on the bigger side but it's definitely smaller than Bais Yaakov and not half as hefker. Teachers and staff really cared about the girls.

Once again, everyone thank you so much!! My dd is very excited even though it won't be for another year. When is a good time to start calling the schools? When do the staff start coming in?
