Someone on Facebook sells brand-name childrens's clothing. For the fun of it, I asked for the price of a little boys' cardigan. She responded that it is $123. There were a lot of people posting about this item/ordering it. Really? Do people really spend this kind of money on their kids' sweaters?

Yup. I know someone who bought WHITE shorts for her 14month old boy, for $90!!!
And I was crying that a pair I bought for ds cost $22!

People spend stupid amounts on kids clothing. Then proceed to get upset if they spill, fall or tear them. THEY ARE KIDS! They grow fast, they run around and play and they get dirty.

Nothing like primark and tesco (for those who know the stores!)

I bought very similar sweaters for my boys in H & M for $15. I thought "expensive" was maybe $75. What a nerd I am!

My first husband spent $1000 on four outfits for an infant. He bought my daughter a fur coat for when she was three.

I never got mad at my kids for messing up their clothes. It is not their fault.

Good to know. (Although had the price been reasonable I may have purchased it. Although knowing that it was a brand-name there was a very small chance of this.)

There are people out there that spend even more on little kids clothing! I hope their credit cards can handle it.

there is a halacha my father taught me (forget the source, but he told it to me right after he read it in a sefer) that one may not enter a small store with no intention of buying if it is likely the proprietor will see one enter UNLESS one says upon entering, "I'm just browsing" or some similar sentiment. basically, don't get a small business owner's hopes up if you don't intend to buy. you can say, "completely out of curiosity, how much is that sweater?"

I can ask my father for the source.

I don't think it's stam halacha, especially not when it comes to a facebook based biz.

Torah.org discusses Price Shopping With No Intent To Buy in detail below:

http://www.torah.org/advanced/business-halacha/5757/vol2no32.html

I see no reason why the halacha would not apply to an on-line merchant.

I went shopping in a Monsey children's clothing store and couldn't believe that people were buying strechies for $80 plus, toddler dresses for $120, and yes, sweaters that were over $100! The amount people were bringing to the register, you'd think there was a big sale going on.

Pumpkin patch here gets quite reasonable.

Primark, next, h&m, marks etc. are fantastic. The quality is just as good as more expensive stuff.

Poor kids in expensive outfits. Their mothers often don't let them live. So my kids £4 trousers rip, I'll get a new pair...

For me (as well as for most non-wealthy people) price is one of the factors that determines intent to buy. So how does this work?

Are you allowed to ask, "I may be interested in purchasing this, if the price is right. How much is it?" Or is that not allowed?

thats really bad business. Davka shops want to get you to come into the the shop, even if you think you won't buy anything, even if they know that only 50% of the people who come in will buy stuff.

I think what is NOT ok is going to your local electronics store, spending a long time engaging the sales staff in what is the best camera or tablet and trying them out, and then going and buying it on amazon.
