| |
Hi all,
We are planning towards a summer 2013 aliyah. We are working on getting as much Hebrew learning in as we can before we go (so that we can hopefully find jobs sooner). We purchased Rosetta Stone a while back and DH has just about completed it. He would like to find another program to continue his progress. He has looked at Berlitz (for both their in person programs and online options) as well as e-teacher and a few others that involve either in-person or live online programs. But since they're all quite pricey, we're wondering if anyone may have any prior experience or input about the next best step after Rosetta Stone levels 1-3. Have you done any? If so, what did you like and/or not like about your program? How much did you spend? Would you say it was worthwhile?
Thanks!

I am taking classes through e-teacher. It is expensive but I learn well with their methodology. It is only once a week but it has a real textbook and actually teaches grammar and the rules of the language as opposed to Rosetta Stone which was taught "intuitively". _________________ Liba, mommy to Zlata Tova 5/6/98, Tziporah Faiga 1/12/01, Esther Rivka 7/13/04 and Avraham Chaim 7/2/2006

Liba, how much is the e-teacher program? They don't post prices.
yy, have you used milingua? Could you tell me more about it? From what I see of their website (especially how cheap it is), it looks like it's all static material - not a real time class of any sort. Is that correct? Or is there a real person to connect with?
Any others? I'm a little surprised at how little is available...

I paid in shekalim, but I think it worked out to about $750 for the year when I convert it.
The second year they offered me for half price though. I think there is room to bargain.

Looks cute - though it doesn't appear to actually be up and functioning yet. I signed up for an account and they said they'll get back with me.

How much in shekalim was it? Also, how long have you been using their program? How do you find your progress?
My DH in particular is trying to master enough Hebrew that, on landing, he'll be able to converse socially (even if slowly) and apply for a job and go to a job interview (we're slightly less concerned with me because my Hebrew is a little better already and because we're anticipating him being the first one to start working while I work at getting the kids and the house settled). At what point in the e-teacher program have you/do you think you might get to that kind of point?
Sorry for all the questions, but before we drop a sizeable chunk like that, we are hoping to make sure it's a sound investment.

No real-time class, no video - mostly text-based, audio, graphic/colors for matching activities, etc. I haven't used it but my husband has used it to teach kids, and they seem to enjoy it. I'm pretty sure there are real people available for customer/technical support - but not teachers per se (that I know of). If you want to know more, I could put you in touch with my husband - you can PM me.

Actually, they do have a way for students to submit questions - not sure exactly how it works, who answers, how long it takes to get a response, etc. - but here's the link to their webpage that talks (briefly) about it:
