This reminds me of my dh's cousins who came to visit from out of the country. They only wore ironed jeans (complete with pressed crease down the middle) the wife kind of looked down on dh for wearing (gasp) non ironed jeans, while we were busy laughing about how incredibly dorky they looked with their jeans ironed.....

I am the amother who irons boxers. Yes, I know what a crazy busy schedule is. I take care of my housework before I go on a site like this. Sometime I have my cleaning lady iron. If she is not around I iron. I iron boxers because they bunch and I am told they are uncomfortable in the crotch.

I iron baby clothes and hair ribbons also.

All of you who don't iron, it is obvious to those that do. To me, there is a negected look. It does not look sharp and polished.

Back to my question, if it is so ok not to fold your underwear, why ask?

And Marina I was not smoking crack last night although I do my best organizing when I can hyperfocus in same.

Seriously- there are medications for this, amother. No shame in speaking to your doctor.

Seriously, you have some real issues. My best friend is a Psychologist. I read her my posts and your responses. You are way out of line. If you are hinting I have OCD, I don't. I don't get anxious or nervous about my housework not being done. I suspect you have strong feelings of inferiority and need to boast your self esteem with your wise cracks. Maybe you should seek therapy or talk to your rov about your nasty comments.

I spoke to my rav, but she had to go to iron her g-string, so it was a very short conversation.

I'm glad your best friend is a psychologist. That's special for you.

I don't think you have ocd or any disorder necessarily, but it is pretty obnoxious to post about all the ironing you do in a tone that implies those of us who don't follow your hilchos cleaning are just not good enough and our kids look shlumpy and so on. It's kind of like those amothers who explain to us exactly in what way their breastmilk enabled their two year old to be accepted to Harvard early admission. You just come across as pretty arrogant and someone has to bump you down a notch, might as well be me Smile

I really don't have strong feelings of inferiority. My house is mediocre. My parenting is mediocre. My career is pretty good. My marriage is mediocre. And I couldn't care less what you or op might think about any of these things. When you see my kids, they are not going to be dressed in matching outfits with bows. They will have torn pants, dirty shirts and chocolate all over their faces. Say some tehillim for me, if you get a chance.

I think OP's a little whack to be posting a poll about who folds their underwear and I'm even worse for reading and responding.

Which of the Jos A Bank shirts don't need to be ironed? Dh wears their shirts but I have to send them to the cleaners for pressing.

100% cotton, non-iron dress shirts. Come out of the dryer with the crease in the sleeve, which I love!

To the mother who takes pride in dressing her kids well and ironing their clothes:

I REALLY admire you, and I am NOT being sarcastic. You sound like a wonderful woman to take care of your Mom, your special child, and keep your children looking VERY well taken care of. While I do not iron on a consistent basis at all, I do like to have my daughters' Shabbos clothes ironed (though am not always able to do so, or have my helper do it), as they DO look so much crisper when ironed.

Sorry about all the bashing. You do your thing and take pride in it. You were honest enough to say that this is your thing, as opposed to baking Challah, which may be of priority to others. You held your own well, and with dignity, throughout this conversation.

Gotta go-some of the laundry needs folding!

You had better watch out. Marina will accuse you of illicit drugs and then urge prescription drugs on you.

Nah, this mom is fine. She is not posting here all about how the rest of us are dirty lazy slobs - she's just saying what she does. I'm good with that.

Don't fold underwear, don't iron anything (except kids bead projects! I seriously bought an iron for this purpose alone), buy only wrinkle-free shirts for dh, rarely bake challah, rarely bake period (I cook though), don't own a mixer, don't buy clothes with lace/ribbons/anything delicate for kids.
If I had the time, I would take a nap.

But, amother, if your whole ironing underwear thing is about doing right by your child, then please accept my sincerest apologies for all the snark I have shovelled at you in this thread.

I've never had the Jos A Banks shirts but my ds and my dh both have the wrinkle free Brooks Brothers shirts, and they're like that as well. Come out of the dryer just like you described, it's a dream!

My hubby and brothers wear the Jos A Banks shirts as well as Brooks. Its a dream though the rest of his shirts go straight to the cleaners, and never the same results as the above!!

Wow, I just looked at the poll results and I can't believe there are folders of underwear at all. I thought the post was a joke.

My MIL folds underwear and I always thought it was bizarre and yet another reason why we were polar opposites. In general, I try not to iron whenever possible. If something is wrinkled, I put it in the dryer wrinkle release cycle. If it is too delicate for the dryer, it is too delicate for my life.

Speak to me of these 100%cotton no iron shirts...DH has tried no iron shirts but he walks 1.5 miles to work and complains that they don't breathe. AFAIK, we found out his had some polyester in them. Really? 100% cotton?

I live in south Africa and everyone irons everything. And I literally mean everything. Kids undershirts, pajama pants, boxers, towels, sheets, sweatshirts, tshirts. But we don't have a drier so things are a little more crispy.
Many families once they have more than 1-2 kids have a char ( part time maid) come in to do the ironing.
I am American and wasn't used to it and even told my maid she does have to iron the kids clothing except for Shabbos and she was horrified. She explained to me that it's easier to iron and fold than to foldout without ironing, which I totally don't understand, but I'm not going to force her not to iron my clothes. I've told her I don't expect/ need/ or even particularly want ironed pajamas for my 6 month old but everything is still ironed.
On the plus side my closets are really neat.
Oh and my toddlers have a miniature iron and ironing board that looks so realistic that entertains them for hours. I just give them a pile of clothing and they stand there ironing.
Oh and my maid irons all of her families clothing as well.
Perhaps that's why I buy a new iron every 4-6 months

The point being that in SA you effectively have slave labour.

I dont know if you are being sarcastic or not, but it is NOT SLAVE labor. I am married to a south african (we live in Israel) and it is not slave labor. The people who work in their homes are paid and have room and board. These people were never educated (thats a whole other story) and these jobs are good jobs for them.

I don't think it is so incredibly cheap to hire help in south africa. You need to give them a place to live, food, wages, often the employer will buy things like schoolbooks for the maids kids. (its kind of like adopting a helpful adult child) At the end of the day it probably evens out to me paying my cleaner $13 per hour. (ok, maybe slightly cheaper) If I offered accomodation I bet I could get help for even less.

Obviously the ability to hire cheap labour stems from the deep inequalities in south african society (and there are gaps between rich and poor in other 3rd world countries too)

Everything you say is true Raisin. As I wrote, one of the reasons why it is so easy to find these people to work for you (general you) is because they are not educated and so they will take a job knowing that they will have an income and a place to stay and food at their disposal at all times.
BH my in laws are not poor at all and they have two rooms at the back of their home with a bathroom and shower room that is for their two workers. No, it is not buckingham palace and truth be told, the first time I saw them and how they work and live, I was horrified, but it is NOT SLAVE labor at all. My in laws, as well as other families that I have met in south africa, pay their workers well. If these workers did not want to work this way, they would find other work that people find with no education.
And most, not all, but most, of the people that I met that have live in help have certain quarters just for there workers to sleep/live and have a bathroom too.

same here. my husband was/is very close to one of the men that work in his parents home. My husband is 34 and this man has been working with his family since way before he was born. He is almost part of the family. If we would have gotten married in SA, they would have been invited to the wedding Smile
