Gittel was the name of a close relative who was tremendously beloved to all of us in her family and beyond. We'd love to name after her but really don't like the actual name (we're not so into naming yiddish names and don't like Gitty either). Tova is an option but also not in love with that name

Any ideas?
Preferably don't advise us to pick a name we like and use Gittel as a middle name - thanks!

Same issue, and we just didn't name after that relative. My kids might.

Gilat, Gila, Gitit, Galiah, Geula, Avital (same gematria), anything like Tal, Talia, Talila, Revital, Talel

I think Gitty is cute. I also don't like Gittel.

Tova is a really pretty name...would you like it better as a double name? Rina Tova, Tova Chana, Shira Tova...

sorry, I dont have any suggestions besides what everyone else wrote, but im actually in a similar dilemma where we don't like the name gittel but love and highly respect the person and would really want to name after her and my husband happens to love the name talia- so I was curious why Isramom8 suggested Talia -is it because it sounds a little like talia? or it has similar meaning? just want to know the reasoning behind it if we actually choose Talia in the end.

thanks! again sorry, to kind of take over this thread with my own question...and not really helping out...

Gitta? Gutta? Gittel is originally a pet form from Gitta, which is a Eastern Yiddish form of Gutta, "good".

Indeed, Tova (Tova Gittel?), Naama, Naomi, anything with the idea of goodness. Gitit is a good idea too.

If I ever have another girl, I will have this same issue. But quite honestly, as I mature and my taste has changed somewhat, I don't mind Gita. To me it sounds sophisticated and elegant. In my twenties, I would never have considered it. I also would only ever spell it with one t, for me it loses its sophistication with 2.

I also don't like gittel so much but gitty is ok..depends on the person lol.
Gitta is a cute variation.

You could also add another name like chana gittel, chaya gittel, yehudis gittel or nechama gittel. And then use the other name.
Gittel malka, gittel devora and gittel miriam are also cute.
