I think the states need to start making laws more serious against talking/texting and driving and warning people I.e. for example in Chicago you can't talk without a head piece or you can get a ticket. Being that in most states talking is allowed while driving, I don't think she deserves the full force of the law.
She made a bad mistake but something that probably 1/5 teenage drivers do. I think she learnt her lesson enough and they should publicize and make an example so people will realize the dangers of texting and driving. Obviously some type of punishment is definitely in order but I don't think a life in jail will accomplish anything for anyone.

This teen got jail time for texting while driving and his license revoked for 15 years even though no one was killed and he says he wasn't texting at the time of the accident...

Do you think he deserves it more??

Strayer's research has shown that texting while driving is more dangerous than talking on the phone while driving, talking to a passenger while driving or eating while driving. He said it is also twice as dangerous as having a blood alcohol level of 0.08 while driving.

That is an interesting point!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I think there is an app that reads aloud your messages for you instead of you having to read them.

I feel bad for these kids who this happens too but I think if these cases raise awareness of the dangers, all the better.

But people didn't know about the dangers of texting and driving 2 years ago? really? Texting is not that new.

Next we'll need an awareness campaign for browsing the internet and driving. Or watching movies while driving.

Mommyz, you seem to think that the girl that texted deserves the worst, but the policeman that killed somebody, you blame it on simple human foibles.

That is your interpretation, but it is not how I feel about it. I think that the police officer should have gone to jail for it, but I don't that the entire law enforcement community should be besmirched because of the actions of one man. It seemed that the reaction to what he did was worse because of his occupation. I was simply pointing out that the uniform doesn't make the man any less of a man or more for that matter. I can tell you for a fact that police officers put their pants on one leg a time.

IMO, the punishment should be for reckless (?) driving, not for killing. The fact that someone was killed because of her recklessness is already some form of consequence.

There are so many reckless drivers out there who ought to get some punishment for endangering people's lives. But since that fatal mistake never happened, they're still on the road, leading their merry lives.

So please don't look at her as a killer. She isn't any worse than any of those still-loose, and much worse, drivers.

I'm not so sure jail time would help. many criminals once let out commint the same crimes and end up back in jail. it dpends on one's personality.

not calling her a cimimal just saying don't think jail always helps
