has anyone heard of the frum chassidish israeli couple who gave birth in America after 12 years to....BLACK twins??? I'm horrified, just can't believe it but now I heard it from a few pple already so it must be true!! my friend told me she heard about it a month ago...so maybe I just missed some post here...
I'm shocked to the core and petrified....can this really happen??
Anyone???

thanks, I know that in the world these things happened but I'm talking about this particular story that just happened recently and to a frum couple, IVF done with Hashgacha of course...
Nobody heard about this???

I can't find any mention using Google.
So what caused this, genes or a mistake?
In any case, they are the couple's children, and Jewish, right? So really, there's no practical issue. I hope people just treat them normally.

I haven't heard it.
Hearing it from a few people doesn't mean it's true. There are things I've heard from a few people that are definitely urban legends.

There were some articles published by the Puah Institute that cited an example of aSwedish couple (blonde, blue-eyed) that gave birth by IVF to a Black baby. There was a mix-up in the clinic.
Their point was that these particular cases, it is obvious that a mistake occurred somewhere along the line. But who knows how many times mix-ups in handling genetic material occur and it is not readily detected? They were highlighting the need to have regulators accompany the handling of genetic material every step of the way during the IVF process.

If there was a mixup and the eggs were swithced with a non Jewish woman's eggs than the babies might not be Jewish. I believe there's a machlokes over whether genetics (who the egg came from) or giving birth detirmines the baby's religous status.
Of course that's all highly thoretical since we don't know if this story is really true.

It has happened that eggs get mixed up but rarely and also they usually have hashgacha and are triple checked by the head of the lab.
And also just because something was heard from a few people doesn't mean it is true.

Guess they really kept it top secret if nobody round here heard this. I now know for sure that this is a true story, I even know the name and relatives of the family, and yes this is a real tragedy...

This is an adorable family - is it two sets of twins, each one consisting of mainly one parent's genes? | yes, two sets of twins - and I didn't get the impression that this was a result of a mix-up.I showed dd the pic and she even pointed out to me that the older twins' facial features are very similar.
