My husband was invited to a pidyon haben this afternoon for the son of his friend whose father was his rebbe in h.s. I don't know the avi haben per se, but I was in seminary with his sister, and I know the family. We're part of the same kollel/women's org. Considering it was a Sunday afternoon, I thought it was a bit strange that only he was invited and not me as well. Pidyon Haben's don't happen often and thought it would have been nice to go. I'm not trying to judge the family chas v'shalom, I'm just wondering if this is common practice to invite a husband without the wife?

Maybe no ladies are invited at all.

I thought of that but when my DH got back he told me he was talking to a lady he knew-- not mishpacha. At least he brought me a sugar & garlic peckel. I was just disappointed that I wasnt invited. And the avi haben knows that dh is married

if it's in someone's home - or is catered - they maybe only invited people they knew well.

I have been invited to a wedding without dh before. it's odd but I sort of get it.

They may have been just trying to ensure a minyan. But in general, couples are invited to simchas. I'm invited to so many simchas where I barely know the baalei simcha, because I'm my husband's Mrs. It's not always fun to go if you don't know them that well, anyway.

The grandfather of the baby is the Rav of a shul (small shul) and it was probably there. The lady I mentioned before was just a lady from the community. The one thing I'm not sure about is whether or not I was NOT invited or just my DH didn't ask, and he's not the type to assume that the invitation was for me either. I don't presume that my DH was NEEDED for the minyan b/c he originally didn't think he was going to be able to go, but I suggested that he should once his previous plans fell through. I didn't realize that I wasn't included in the invitation.
