| |
My older child will be 16 months when my baby is born IY"H.
I am looking for a side by side double that is not too heavy and can fold as small as possible to fit in the trunk of a car, and still be able to fit other stuff in as well (as we will also have a back seat full of car seats).
everyone says the City Mini double, but here are the problems:
I live on a high floor in an apartment building, and the elevator door is pretty narrow, there are people who have the city mini in my building, and it is a struggle to get it in and out each time- it doesnt really fit, you have to angle it in a certain way, and fight with the door..
which would not be too bad except for my next problem, which is that my car is usually parked about 7-8 blocks away from my apartment, and so I would need a car seat adapter for the stroller- but it seems that the city mini car seat adapter is a big hassle to take on and off and is a massive contraption, making the stroller heavier, and possibly wider- which would make it unable to fit in my elevator..
SO-- does anyone have experience with the city mini double with the car seat adapter? does it make it heavier/wider?
AND- Does anyone have the mountain buggy duet- which is narrrower- is it much heavier/bulkier, and how does it do with a car seat? is it much more expensive?
OR- does anyone have experience with or have seen the new britax b agile double? does it have a better car seat adapter than the city mini for a graco? is it the same in terms of weight/width?
Sorry for the megilla, if anyone has advice I would really appreciate it, I need to figure this out ASAP!

I am also in midst of looking into double strollers, my baby will be 13 months when the next one is born
I started to realize (even with my first) that there is very little good about transfering baby with car seat to stroller - make stroller heavier in general to push(unless it s snapngo), and carrying the carseat to and from the car up the step (we live in a basement) it was sooo heavy, so I started leavign the car sear in the car and carrying her in - in your case you would put them in the stroller to transport them to your apt. just put the baby in the stroller flat, my sis-in-laws all do it with their newborns in the city mini double. I am probably going to get that.
the mountain buggy, I read on reviews, is truly more narrow, but guess what? there is less room for the kids and sooner or later (if you decide you needed one) you will not need the car seat attachment anymore. but you will still need to fit the 2 kids (who will be older) inside comfortably.

I just recently got the mountain buggy duet and I am very happy with it, so are the other I know that have it. It is narrow enough to fit through almost any doorway and there is enough room for both my kids to sit comfortably. I know that you can buy a car seat adapter to go with it. My older one is now 17 months and the younger one is 2 months. _________________

I dunno, the city mini is supposed to be pretty narrow as far as side-by-sides come, if width is an issue for you maybe you'd just be better off with a front-and-back arrangement?
I haven't measured them myself but when I see mountain buggy doubles going past on the street they certainly appear wider than the city minis, but maybe it's just the look because I haven't measured.

the mountain buggy duet which is a fairly new model is much narrower than any other side by side double I have seen anywhere, including the city mini

| I had the car seat attachment for the city mini double and hated it. It is not easily snapped on and off. It is meant to staying the stroller but hen is much harder to get the stroller into the car. I don't think it made it wide as its it wouldn't be harder to get into your elevator, but it def made the stroller heavier and more bulky to get to the car. I sold it after using it only a few times

The Duet is literally as narrow as you can get for a side-by-side, it's about 4.5 inches narrower than the City Mini and any others I'm looking at that claim to fit through a standard door. The B-Agile double is really the same size as the City Mini.
I'd hate to have to schlep that much of anything though (I mean a stroller w/ a carseat in it, for so many blocks and into confined spaces). Plenty of strollers can accomodate a newborn in the actual stroller seat, you really dont have to haul the carseat all over the place; your baby won't mind being taken from the carseat if they get put somewhere else comfy. Or you could use a front carrier to hold the baby in the elevator, eliminating the need for a double stroller all the time. Or you can look at front-back doubles, which could be what you need, most of them can take/carseats anyway. _________________ http://crunchyandkosher.blogspot.com/

| Though carriers or straight in the stroller are great options for toting an infant, I remember loving the convenience of popping the carseat in and out with DD so I imagine wanting to use it with #2 as well. Worst part of graduating to the convertible carseat was that there was no longer any way to remove a sleeping child from car without waking her up.

Pick your convenience. Being able to haul the carseat, or being able to fit where you need to fit. As a newborn at least, my DD was perfectly happy to go from sleeping in the carseat to sleeping snuggled on her ima's chest in a front carrier.

I love my duet, but it's HEAVY. I hate taking cabs because I need to get it into the trunk. _________________ Smile there, aint you glad your living:)
