For all teachers, how did you get your first teaching job?
I have no experience but a BA and currently in school for Masters but no schools will interview me.
What should I do?

OY, BTDT.
When I finished my master I tried getting a job, but they only wanted to hire someone with a teaching diploma, even if legally a MA here can teach.
Sooooo... I gave lots of tutoring, homework stuff, home teacher, and finally I found a "not under contract" school (hence with a more free cursus) who took me in internship.
There was another school who would have been interested had I worked as something else even, before, but I didn't. _________________

Where are you located? What type of school are looking for a job at? What grade?
I did a BA in education so I was hired by a school that generally only hires teachers who already have a masters on the condition that I started a Masters that summer.

In the teaching world, experience is everything. I would advise you to settle for an assistant job and work your way up. Unless you are way out of town (and they really need teachers) it is extremely difficult to get hired without any experience in a classroom setting.
In this market, even teachers with a lot of experience are having a hard time finding jobs...

| Are you certified or in a certification course? Most states require a certain number of hours of student-teaching to get certified. That usually counts as a first experience. If not, look for assistant jobs, or teaching through for-profit companies. My first job was through a for-profit company, and I was completing my student-teaching hours at the same time. I had a baby toward the end of that year, so I took some time off, but even being home all year, I managed to get a really good job lined up at a Jewish school for next year. You don't need tons of experience, just a foot in the door. Another option is to try subbing. The frum schools always have teachers going on maternity leave and need some to fill in for those stretches of time. Schools are more willing to chance it on someone inexperienced for such a short period of time, but it's also enough time for them to see that you're good enough to be considered for a more permanent arrangement- and you can list it as experience for other potential jobs. I have a few friends who got jobs that way.
