We do not have twins, I just feel like we do right now. and I'm sure they must both be two too! our 3 yr old was never the open cabinets and take things out type. (He'd just climb in the sink and turn the water on and then spray . . . and so on). Our 16 month old is crazy for anything in a cabinet or drawer. as I clean up one mess, he's taking something else apart. he walks off and stashes the former contents of my cabinets, etc, in the most unlikely places. And he is getting our 3 year old in on it. Anything the baby can't reach, big brother is right there to hand to him. I was changing the 3 year old, and the 16 month old walked into the room and waved a challah knife in my face! (NO, baby was not unattended. Abba just didn't realize what he was taking out of the drawer . . . and it's not usual to find knives in that particular drawer.) The terrible twosome have even attacked my fridge/freezer. The joy of finding frozen strawberries taken out of the package and left to defrost in a nice cozy bed . . .
I'm not really looking for answers (I know all about locks, and so do they!) I just had to say my piece and hope for peace.

Without locks I would lose my mind. My ds is a total raider. We have locks on every single cabinet and drawer in the main rooms. We have childproof doorknobs on every single door besides his bedroom. Anything left he is free to play with- basically, his toys. Occasionally I'll open one kitchen cabinet for him to play in while I'm busy in the kitchen.

locks don't work for me
my soon to be 2 year old (in 2 weeks) has been up since 4 and doing trouble all morning

I was in bed and heard water water... came out and found him flooding the floors and when I came out he looks at me with his cute face and says water...

he was busy all morning and I have a lot of work cleaning up from him

plus we are all tired... B"H for healthy children!
at least he got me up early and I started cooking for shabbos..

Wanna see a picture of my twins covered from head to toe in flour? How about the time that I bought 20 cans of tuna çoz it was on special offer, and another one of my darling two-year-olds opened every single one - with an easy ring-pull opener? The same dd also ripped labels off of about 10 other food cans.....

Yup, BH we all have stories to tell Smile

It's not easy but just keep in mind everything passes. Right now my baby is 21 months and is in this cute defiant stage of saying oh no to everything, but not yet doing those real trouble. But I remember my other kids partying off freezer stuff, spilling a bottle of oil and other crazy stuff and I really felt I'm going crazy and this will never come to an end. Believe it or not, it did! Just don't forget to take pictures!

nice to know I'm in good company - when child-proof locks didn't help, we graduated to locks with keys and locking doors whenever possible.

grin....I have a toddler at the screeching and into everything stage, a preteen girl and a teen boy at home! I'm glad I'm not alone. Yesterday he insisted on bringing the bubble blowing machine inside and spilling it in the kitchen of course. Less interested in the bubbles than taking the container out and watching the liquid spill. Willfull and headstrong...

We have a child lock on the kitchen door (up nice and high). Unless I am in the kitchen, no little toddler people can come in. Can you lock the kitchen door, OP.

Maybe stash everything in high cabinets?

grin, good point, the preteen wasn't home or she would bring in something that is supposed to stay outside for sure. A riding toy is actually hidden right now for that very reason. Today the older two had a fight that caused the dog to bark, the preteen banged on the door and woke the toddler....

well, I hope that I can offer the light at the end of the tunnel - as my teens grow up, they prove to be strong, independent young adults - and that's after all what it's all about Very Happy

hang in there and repeat to yourself 100 times a day - "this too shall pass" and even more importantly - "thank G-d they're not handicapped and unable to do all this"

and of course the all-time winner (to use esp. while cleaning up all the messes while bone-weary form lack of sleep) - "H' only gives me what I can handle" Rolling Eyes

Just make sure to complain, though, so He doesn't think you're handling it so well!!

I also have a 3 yr old and a 2 yr old, both girls, and a 2 month old baby boy... so, when mommy is busy nursing baby the fun begins!!! like Maple syrup all over the place (and on my DH's college books and notes...he was so not happy), and things like that... my 2 yr old is really the instigator in these things, she is a real trouble maker. my 3 yr old understands more and is more aware of consequences. My 2 yr old learned how to climb out of her pac n play, and boy did she wreck her room one shabbos morning!!! (I live in a smallish basement apartment and so I store a lot of things in the kids' room.) there was literally not an inch of space to be seen of the floor. But yes, they are kids, and we can't expect anything different! As long as they keep safe; I have a safety doorknob on the bathrom and front doors and a safety lock on the cabinet w/ my cleaning detergents. Other cabinets they have access to and they make good use of my pots and stuff "making" eggs or supper or whatever else comes to their mind. I can't say it doesn't annoy me to have extra work of putting e/t back in its place, but my DH says it keeps them busy and entertained so why complain about it?!

I love the magnetic locks! My house would be flying without them and they're really baby proof!

I have magnetic locks but only on two cabinets because they are sooo hard to get on!
So right now ds is emptying the parev closet. He did the drawer underneath the stove and I think it is stashed with his toys.

He broke up a packet of crackers and threw them on the floor, he emptied the washing basket and is now climbing into the closet!

My problem is when I come running to stop him, he gives me a huge smile and babbles about what he did and I MELT!

LOVE HIM!

my solution was to store only unbreakables and no food in all lower cabinets. as a matter of fact, my kitchen is still arranged that way, years later.

lots of nachas and be happy that they're capable of all this!!! remember the mantras.
