| |
I made a challah dough yesterday morning and left it on the counter to rise, intending to braid and bake it in the afternoon. I had a crazy day after that and never got to it. I put it in the fridge sometime late afternoon. It is still there. Can I still use it? Does dough get spoiled from sitting around so long?
I need an answer quick because I don't want to waste time and energy braiding it if its spoiled and I won't use it.

| You can definitely use dough that has been refrigerated overnight, what I've never done is leave it all day, and then chill it. I would smell it - if it has a very strong yeasty smell (more than what you'd expect) I don't know if I would use it, but if it just smells like a yeast dough - I would use it.

It is likely to taste bitter and overly yeasty even when baked. I have family members who leave their challah rising a long time and they eat and enjoy it, but my kids won't eat the challah in their house, and I wish I didn't have to either, though I do it for the mitzvah and to be polite. _________________ Liba, mommy to Zlata Tova 5/6/98, Tziporah Faiga 1/12/01, Esther Rivka 7/13/04 and Avraham Chaim 7/2/2006
