Just curious. It seems to be a minority, but when DH bought a new set for himself he said the store owner said hundreds of people in his city were buying. They must all be tucking it in... do we have a closet techeiles movement going on? DH is not a trendsetter at all, he used to wear his tzitzis out until he started wearing techeiles, now he tucks it in because he doesn't want to stand out, most people in his yeshiva wear all white. He just switched over because he feels that the evidence is convincing enough that it's a real, present mitzva (I agree!) We're yeshivish in the NY area. I know at least a few of DH's friends are also tucked-in-techeiles.

Does your DH wear techeiles? Out or in? What geographic area and what 'type' are you? I'm just so curious what the techeiles demographic is on imamother. I imagine a lot of the DL Israelis are on board.I feel like I don't have much company in our yeshivish circles... Personally I'm all for it, the tucking in bothers me more than the being different! But I don't blame DH for being shy about it because one of his roshei yeshiva is very not into it (not against it per se, but I think maybe Dh feels that this rosh yeshiva looks funny at the people who wear it?)

One of my ds's wears tchelet. He learend in Yeshiva in Otniel where it is very much encouraged. My other dd does not wear yet (but since he needs reminding to put tsitsit on, and loses them a lot I am glad about that Smile )

My dh does not wear tcheilet. He does not like the idea much and is not convinced of the proof, especially about the colour.

One son in law dows and the other does not.

BeH mashiach will be here soon (today ?) and will tell us exactly who has the correct answer

I don't think I have ever seen IRL here. Or maybe once or twice, more original types.

It seems to me only charedim wear tzitzis outside as adults, here.

My neighborhood from my childhood had a lot of techeilet wearing people. My husband doesn't wear techeilet.

My husband wears tchelet. My boys (still quite young -- lots of tallit katan wear-and-tear) do not.

Yes, it occurred to me that young children do wear through tzitzis! We don't have a son yet but I have no idea if we'd give him techeiles as a child! On one hand, it's so expensive, but on the other hand if we're training him in the mitzva of tzitzis why should his be lesser...? The one person in my neighborhood who wears techeiles out (as far as I've noticed, it's not like I go watching the men... I know from DH that it's FAR from standard around here) has a 5-year-old kid I've seen with blue strings.

My dh does. He wears them tucked in with a suit or dressed for work, often out when wearing casual.

Without addressing the techeiles issue (no, dh doesn't) there is no problem giving a child a less mehudar (but kosher) option to do a mitzva until he is bar mitzva. Eg there is no problem in giving a child a simple, but kosher etrog - because you are still teaching him to do the mitzva, or having a child light Chanuka candles even if after bar mitzva he will use olive oil. The problem is when people give a child something similar but which doesn't fulfil the basic mitzva -eg an etrog which is passul (or a lemon!) or possul tzitzis, even if the child doesn't notice.

You're right, but the difference between tcheilet and a less mehudar etrog, is that many people who wear techeilet (my DH included) do not consider a tzitzit without tchelet a kosher tzitzit. I.e. DH would prefer to go without than to wear a talit katan without techelet. My DS is young and wears a regular talit katan without tchelet for chinuch reasons but once he's a bit older and proves he can take care of his tzitzis he will get techelet.

Ah, okay, if someone holds that it's the ikkar of the mitzva and not a hiddur, then I understand. I didn't realize people hold like that.

DH's tallis has blue instead of black to resemble techeiles, but no techeiles in the strings.
