| |
My blender is really more suited towards large frothy liquidy beverages; it doesn't seem to grind cheese well for cheesecake. I don't want a food processor; I'm not grating my own cheese and I think buying one would be too big and too costly.
I think either a hand blender or a 3 cup chopper would do the job better; just wondering what you all have/recommend. I want to get 2 - one for during the year and one for Pesach.
Oh, and also - what color do you have, to differentiate it from your fleishig appliances?
Thanks

My immersion blender works great for cheesecake. I use a deep bowl, add the ingredients, and blend away.
But I also have a dairy hand mixer which didn't cost me too much either. _________________ Really Awesome Mom!

I have this one
http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=221112057&sellerid=24289548
bought in EY. I've had it for about 8 years and use it all the time.
I put blue electric tape on the unit and on the parts, and I keep it on the dairy side of the kitchen. _________________ Lucky Mom to 5

I have a cheap hand mixer that I got as a shower gift more than 15 years ago. I use it on a transformer now that we made aliya. It does the job just fine B"H. I am sure you can find cheaper, but you could get one like it on Amazon with free shipping (if you have prime) for $12.99 http://www.amazon.com/Proctor-.....mp;sr=1-19 _________________ Liba, mommy to Zlata Tova 5/6/98, Tziporah Faiga 1/12/01, Esther Rivka 7/13/04 and Avraham Chaim 7/2/2006

| I have an immersion blender for milchigs. I use it for cheesecake but I like the way it comes out with a regular blender better. I just keep it in my milchig cabinet and that's how I knwo it's milchigs.

I have a hand blender (immersion) that I use for soups and I have a mixer for cakes. Oh I also have a regular blender if I want to make a smoothie. But if I had to grind cheese I don't know what I'd do. since cheese is dry it really needs more of a food processor, or hand grater. I just buy my cheese shredded.
As far as labeling I keep the parts in my milchige cabinet and all the big pieces have those meat/dairy stickers in this case dairy stickers. The colors are the same (white) as my fleishige or parve appliances. I didn't see them available in different colors. Although my knives are all different colors didn't find the option in this case I wanted to buy based on brand, quality, & price not color.

I have a Kitchenaid cobalt blue immersion blender for milchiks, I use it mostly for milkshakes. Mine has a chopper attachment but I really don't use it. I guess I'd use the chopper part if I wanted to shred cheese, but I buy it already shredded. Really, most of my food prep is pareve.
Much of my milchik stuff is blue. Besides the immersion blender I have a blue toaster, pancake turner, spatula, blue glasses, mugs and dishes...
B"H my kitchen is large enough for a clear separation of just about everything, and I put those "Kosher Labels" that say milchig or pareve or fleishig in blue, green, or red on items I don't own in "gender" colors. _________________

| Get an imersion blender or a hand mixer. Don't waste your time on a chopper unless it's got a shredding attachment and you want to shred a lot of cheese. They're such a pain to clean.

I have a magic bullet (a random wedding gift) that works well for most of my milchig needs; you can grind coffee and nuts, make pesto, that kind of thing with it. and make small smoothies!
I also have an inexpensive handheld mixer that I use for things like cheesecake. _________________ http://crunchyandkosher.blogspot.com/

My Magic Bullet knockoff doesn't grind well enough for cheesecake. but I like the hand mixer idea - I have one already for during the year and for Pesach.

I also use a hand mixer, it's cheap and does the job well. _________________ "But it's no use going back to yesterday, I was a different person then"- Alice in Wonderland
