I have my BA in Political Science and English Lit (I double majored), and was planning on getting my Masters in secondary education to teach high school, but am shocked by how little money I will make in a Jewish school. (Been working, before applying to grads school). I'm not willing to teach coed high school, so public school is out, but I could teach public school elementary.
I want to research other ideas for myself. I'm organized and driven, academically inclined, caring and I love children (of all ages). I want something I can do part time (Eventually, doesn't need to be part time schooling), and makes decent money. I know that the job markets stink in general right now, but I want to hear from you ladies about my thoughts. I'd also love ideas of other degrees/careers I should look into that I haven't though of yet. I don't NEED grad school for myself, and would love to start a career without it, but can't think of anything.
Does anyone have these degrees? What do you like/dislike about your jobs/degrees? About how much do you make?
I'm thinking of:
MSW
MSEd--Special Ed, Early or Elementary Ed
MPA
MLS/MLSLI
I'm not looking for anything that will take me longer than three years, so a PHD or PsyD are out.

| Everything you've listed is likely to cost you more money than you're going to make. You should probably be a little less picky about where you're willing to work- in this economy, beggars can't be choosers. MO schools pay MUCH better than RW ones and not all of them are co-ed; not all of them restrict limudei chol to afternoons, so you could actually work full-time and get paid accordingly. You'd be working full-time, but you'd be on a similar schedule to your kids.

I have an MAEd but left the field to make more money. You can have mine if you want it.

OP.
I would work in a MO school--Problem is, living out of town, there isn't one in my community. I'm not moving anytime soon.
That's my problem. Are you saying it isn't even worth going back to school?
Can anyone think of any better paying jobs given my skill set and interests?

Don't get an MLS right now unless you're interested in working in a law or medical library (and training accordingly), or you have technical computer skills. Public library jobs are hard to come by, especially for a Sabbath-observant person, and the competition for everything is just crazy. You have to spend time in internships and volunteering in order to get the experience you'll need to get a real job, so unless you can afford a few years of schooling and very little income...
I would look into teaching SAT or similar classes, or tutoring in a place like Kumon - you probably won't need more schooling, and the hours can be flexible. _________________ http://crunchyandkosher.blogspot.com/

Right now, some professions are more popular than others in each state and city.
Court reporting is a two-year program, but it takes the average person two-and-a-half years. But, there are more jobs in Maryland and Washington D.C and New York City than there are in South Bend Indiana.
So, you would need to find out what profession is in demand where you live.
