| Can anyone recommend a good, simple highchair? Nothing fancy, easy to clean, preferably well-priced, supportive seating for a 6 month old beginning solids....

| If you're looking for a very basic high chair, the Graco SimpleSwitch is a great price. The chair pad is machine washable, the seat reclines, it converts to a booster seat, and it's currently selling on Amazon for $67. I have it, and I don't have any complaints (except it would be nice if it came with two trays instead of one...)

| I have that booster seat and it was not supportive enough for DD so young. We did use it for travel (still do) but at home we have the Fisher Price Space Saver high chair, also wildly popular, and also sits on a chair like a booster, but the chair is more molded and cushioned so it holds the baby better and more comfortably, it reclines which could be more comfortable for a very young baby especially if they don't sit upright independently yet, and has a fuller-sized tray. It is a good option if you have more extra chairs than extra space, as we did in our little newlywed apartment with a full dinette set but only one child! If you don't have extra chairs taking up your limited space anyway, you may as well go straight to a regular high chair like the others suggested above.

http://www.amazon.com/Graco-3A00RIT-Contempo-Highchair-Rittenhouse/dp/B000MXQGT4
I have the Graco Contempo or a very similar model. It has 6 heights (low for when I wanna sit on the couch to feed him, high for when he's at the table with us), reclines (good for bottle drinking), great padding, folds compactly, and has 2 AMAZINGLY easy to clean trays.
I've only had it for a few months, my sister's had hers for 4+ years and it's still going strong. I like to go cheap on things generally, but I splurged and got this hoping it will last for multiple kids (I paid a bit more since I bought in Israel)

I love the ikea one. it might not be great for 6month old if she cant support herself sitting yet but otherwise its GREAT! Small, easy to clean etc etc.
All I can say is DO NOT get the prima pappa evo. I have it and HATE it. _________________

I agree 100%. I hate cleaning the perego one. We were given 2 when the twins were born, and we still have one. I do daycare now and recently bought an Ikea one, so much easier! I plan on buying another Ikea one and then saving the perego only for babies who are not feeding themselves and can't sit up (I don't agree with giving solids so young, but they changed the age here to 4 months so I have no choice if the parents want). _________________ Lucky Mom to 5

The absolute best high chair I have seen anywhere is the Boon Flair.
http://www.booninc.com/products/Flair
We have it, and we could not love it more. It's super easy to clean, easy to raise and lower, has two dishwasher-safe trays, and a reasonably small footprint. It's not super cheap, but if you do a little craigslist diligence you can usually get it for a decent price. We LOVE it, and so does my daughter.

I agree! It's so easy to clean that after 2 years of every day use it looks brand new (and I'm really not an obsessive cleaner). Plus, it blends into the dining room instead of looking like a piece of baby equipment.

| I have the prince castle one too, although the company isnt prince castle anymore, but everyone refers to the high chair by that name. I just saw in a baby store recently that they make it with a harness now! I love this high chair cuz its so basic, very small, perfect for keeping in a corner of a kitchen, no wide base or anything and sooo easy to clean! I can wipe it down in a second and pushes around really easily. I never thought I'd get such an 'old fashion' looking high chair, but once I realized the benefit of it, I'm really happy with it. I used it for two kids so far and its still in perfect condition.

Just one point about the boon, apart from its price, is that it does not recline!
I know this is not a must for all high chair buyers but it does make a big difference especially if your LO cannot totally support themselves sitting up yet.

We hesitated before we bought our boon when we heard it didn't recline, and then realized that completely didn't matter to us--and it hasn't. I know some people do use the recline feature on their highchairs, but frankly it never seemed useful to me, and we haven't missed it at all.
Of course, your mileage may vary, but I think it's wise to actually consider if a recline is important to you, or if that's just one of the things that suck people in (like breakfast cereal that proudly proclaims "contains no asbestos!"...yay.)

A baby who can't sit upright should not be eating solids.

| I know recline might not seem important to many people, I didn't really think about it too hard before buying my highchair, but the one I bought turned out to have it and boy was I happy with it after the fact! We bought the high chair before we really needed it because it was a good deal, and I ended up "parking" DD in it quite a lot. At that age (4-6 months or so?) she HATED being left to play alone AT ALL, I could never get anything done, she didn't favor a swing or bouncer or anything, but she really liked to sit in the high chair where she was at a level where she could see what I was doing, "talk" to me, etc. Whereas before I couldn't seem to make anything more complicated than cold cereal for supper, in the highchair she loved to watch me cook and putter around the kitchen. Total lifesaver. She was not yet able to sit independently at the time but she was so comfy in that seat (FP space saver, btw, still liking it at 18 months old)
