Please can you help us with some market research!!
A friend of ours has come up with a really good solution to the problem of spilled water from negel vasser every morning. It is a spill-proof negel vasser set, so the water can be carried to and from the bathroom/sink without any spills. It is a sealed unit which means kids can no longer trip and spill water all over the floor, either before or after washing.

Set up costs for plastic molding is very high for this product, and they are trying to work out if it is financially viable to go ahead or not. Everyone likes the product idea and design, and it is a very high quality plastic which will last many years.

So here’s the question: How much would you pay in us dollars for a modern design, strong plastic, spill-proof negel vasser set. (At the moment, a cheap bowl and cup set is about $6, and fancy bowls with cartoon designs are $16-20.) (Optional question, how many would you buy?)

Your answer may help decide whether it is feasible to go into full production, so please respond. If price point is ok, they should be in the stores very soon.
Thanks.

(sorry, not sure if this is the right section but I wanted to do this anonymously for obvious reasons)

I think I'd purchase such a set for my kids, up to about $8.

I can't understand however, how one can wash with it and it should be spill proof too. Sounds great though.

I would buy it for up to $5 more than a regular, cheap set. The big problem, IMHO, is that this is a VERY niche market. Will you be able to sell enough of these to make it work?

They already make and sell covers that make it pretty spill proof. Would this be very different?

Probably not. We don't enforce it before a bigger age (considering starting now, at 5).

I need to understand the design of the product better. Is it just as easy to use as a normal bowl? How is that so? Can you post a diagram?

I'd buy one for up to $20, and if it really was as great as it's supposed to be, I'd buy more for the rest of my kids!

It is a very niche market, but look at how well Shabbos lamps are doing- so many different colors and styles.

P.S. DH has dropped his cell into his bowl several times. Would this product prevent that?

Tranquility- I wouldn't compare Shabbos lamps to this.
Shabbos lamps are 100% convenience. No other lamp that you can "turn on and off" on Shabbos.

I can't see this Negel Vaaser turn into a full fledged business. Maybe a small side income? But hey, you can never know.

A lot of parents want their kids to do negel vasser at their beds from a very young age. I got DS a set a long time ago, but I put it away because it was always spilling when they were younger.

Shabbos lamps: you need one per bedroom. This item: you need one per son. (do girls do this too?)

It might sell really well if you can find a source for some sort of segullah for the kids who do this every day to grow up to be healthy, wealthy, and wise:)

What about packaging it with a cute pair of tzitzis and blue lollipops as an upsherin gift set?

I wash my childrens hands from very young age.

I would pay $15 for this and buy 4.

We are not makpid on the bowl since the kids bathroom is very close by. But my son learned in school about having it by his bed and I said no bc I was afraid of spills. Also good to have for a guest. I would buy it for $15 or so, but probably only 1.

Sorry, can't give away the design. But it would be completely sealed, so little/no chance of dropping a phone in.

T&P, never heard of only boys washing negel vasser. In my house girls and boys do it.

I agree this would be a more niche market then shabbos lamps - less people are very strict about negel vasser. But as T&P said, people will buy several sets, one per family member.

I believe it's a segulah for yiras shamayim.

My children can't prepare their negel vasser before bed, since my baby is always up until very very late and she always spills it.

Will these be large enough to hold two cups or just one? Maybe it's only a chassidishe thing, but all children, girls and boys, wash negel vasser at their beds.

I would definitely buy a couple especially if it's quality plastic.

They sell a washing cup with a lid so you don't spill the water. How is this different?

I would spend $10-$11 on one and would buy three now and two more in a couple of years.

T&P- not quite the same a Shabbos lamps- there are shomer Shabbos people who are not makpid on negel vasser at all, and there are those who hold you don't need a bowl by the bed, you can just go to the nearest sink. Also, I know a lot of non-frum families with BT kids who have Shabbos lamps in their guest rooms for when the kids come to visit, so they really do get some business outside the target community.

the only reason I dont have negel vasser by the kids' beds is the spilling issue.
if this product was well made and really spillproof and easy to clean, I'd pay up to $20 and buy one for each child.

Our kids prep their negel vasser by their beds from 3 yrs old and we've not had a spilling issue. Sure, there's the occasional drip here and there, but they know not to touch the used water and to wipe it up with a towel.

I would definitely buy such a thing, and would buy a few for my home as well as gifts (upsherenish etc.) however, I wouldn't spend more than 6-7 a set, unless it would be decorated/customized with the child's name etc, in which case I'd spend about $10. Agan, For everyday household use I would spend 6-7 for a set.
I also think its a chassidish thing to have everyone prepare negel vasser by their bed.
