I think anyone with a difficult childhood, with a lack of self esteem, always thinks they don't measure up.
Children brought up with a lot of self esteem, have more confidence in themselves and in their future. They think highly of themselves no matter what. In a healthy way. They know that intrinsically they are fine. The rest of us have to work to achieve that level of self acceptance, self love, and ultimately self confidence, even if we sometimes just sit around doing nothing, or don't daven with enough kavana. We are okay because we just are. With all of our faults and inconsistencies. We aim higher, we sometimes fall, we get up again.
