I understand that in terms of appropriatness, background makes a difference.
But to me it boils down to natural feelings and allowing kids to feel what they feel. This from a chasidish woman.

^^ What bashinda said. So much depends on the milieu - in my circles, this is not only acceptable but expected. If we saw that "Katie's" behaviour was getting a bit stalker-y and "Justin" was getting annoyed, a trusted female relative (big sister, aunt, mom, etc.) would let "Katie" know that she had to dial it back a notch or six. "Justin" would be getting the same type of messages (don't get involved at a young age, you have the rest of your life to be in a relationship, school comes first, don't do anything that you'll regret, etc., etc.) from his family.

Feel what they feel doesn't mean it should be encouraged.

I would separate them unless both are interested in trying to get to know each other for marriage, too much heart ache potential for the girl and I don't want the boy to be around a "fan".
