If I'm not mistaken, the seats are the same as the Bugaboo Chamellion. (sp?) So if you already have the Chamellion, or you can buy it used for cheaper, you can buy just the Donkey frame. Am I making sense?

Seriously? You want a deal on a $1500 stroller?

Either you have the money to spend on it, or you can content yourself with another stroller. Trust me, it is not the only one that can possibly suit your needs.

Aren't the seats on the donkey slightly narrower?

I dont think so, Its way narrower. Thats the catch. U cant upgrade from the cameleon/frog to donkey with the seats, gotta do entire purchase!

Personally I love the stroller and I think worth the $ to stroll in comfort. Its a one time investment.

The truth is, there actually are some features that you really can't find in strollers of lower price ranges. But I agree, if you're not ready to spend megabucks you just have to settle for less. They don't make good deals on bugaboos and the donkey hasn't been around long enough to really have a used market going on.

But I'd love to know if anyone knows of a less expensive double stroller where you can have the option of one or both babies facing you side by side. (The City Select, for example, you can turn both seats facing you but one will be under the other so that kid can't see you anyway. So sad. Plus they're so close to the ground, yech. But it's half the price, has a used market for even less, and doesn't look so funny in single mode...)

I bought my first car 8 years ago for the price of 2 Donkeys. Just to put it in perspective.

And my brother bought his first HOUSE in cash for the price of about three of your car. There's no point comparing, we live in a very different world with a crazy economy.

But I definitely agree with your basic point, that the idea of a $1500 stroller is preposterous. However $1500 is not what it once was. People can decide what's worth it to them; if you do a lot of walking and plan to have a baby every other year I can definitely see a stroller being worth almost as much as a car to you! (in personal value)

He bought a house for 9000....when?

My kids are all under 2 years apart from the one above them. I do plenty of walking. I understand the need for a good and easy to push stroller. You can get 2 double mountain buggies for that price! Just to put it in perspective. Again Smile

It's fine if people want to buy the Donkey if they have that money available to spend on it. But I think this justification that people should "invest" their money in this for comfort is taking it way too far.

Also the First Wheels City Twin (but not sure if that was discontinued) is well under 1000.

Sorry to have hijacked, just wanted to say thanks for the suggested alternatives! I had a different thread about double strollers and I don't think those names came up. Ideally I'd like the kind that converts from single to double because I don't anticipate having #3 before #2 outgrows needing a stroller but maybe if I find a double I like better I'll get it and later on try to resell and downgrade.

The seats are not compatible with other bugaboo seats.

I have the donkey and found the bassinet a waste- I moved my baby to the seat, which reclines to 180 degrees, at 2 months! So, I think the cheapest way to do it is to get mono +additional seat +hood and see if one of the independent sellers will skip the sales tax. The woman I bought from sells baby things in her garage and was happy to discount the taxes if I would purchase from her. Also, if you want 2 different color seats (like I have blue and pink) it's the easiest way to do it. I am very happy with my purchase.

I don't believe it's legal to skip the tax just to buy from a friend. It is legal in many states to buy online from stores that don't operate in your state and forgo taxes that way.

I have a sister in law who calls her double her car as well. And that's what justified her obtaining a $650 Mountain Buggy as she uses it all over in E"Y. With the money you spend on a Donkey you can get 2 "cars" Wink
