I was wondering this as well. My DH has been experimenting with making wine and the process requires yeast...so the 4 cups? For sure have been in contact with yeast.

I wonder if yeast has the same status as baking soda (also used for leavening and accepted by some for use on Pesach).

it's considered "sear" or something like that... meaning "levening agensts" and are also forbiden but not called chometz.

if you look at the baking powder for pesach it had different ingrediants...

I said baking soda, not powder. Baking soda is a chemical compound which never has different ingredients. Pesach baking powder, OTOH, does have different ingredients - it's baking soda and potato starch instead of corn starch. I'm not sure if they leave out the cream of tartar for Pesach or not.

Yeast is a fungus and by definition cannot become hametz. It can cause things like wheat/bread to ferment etc but it cannot itself become hametz and is not a halachic issue.

S'or is like a sour dough starter which is itself hametz. Not using any form of leavening agent at all is a misunderstanding of halacha.
