| |
I have an adorable 10 month old baby. I am wondering if anyone can help with a couple issues.
1. He loves nursing and I love nursing him. I am trying to get him to eat normal food a few times a day, he likes to eat it but whats bothering me is that he makes no move to put the food in his mouth himself. Even when on the floor most babies try to eat things, he picks things up but doesnt make any move to put it in his mouth.
2. He has NO teeth at all
3. He is little for his age.
4. He scoots but wont crawl at all. He gets around but very slowly.
5. He is getting better but still doesnt sleep a full night.
6. I just found out I am pregnant and dont know how much longer I will nurse for, although I wanted to nurse till he was 1 at least.

| as for not having teeth, I think that's not abnormal. and poor sleeping and small for his age could just be him. but I think you should probably have him evaluated for the no crawling and not putting things in his mouth. those are 2 things he probably should be doing at this stage. could be normal, but could also be that he'd benefit from some PT/OT. worth a phone call to your pediatrician.

I'll answer the questions in order (as best I can)
1: Nurse as long as you feel comfortable and the baby is interested. About putting the food in his mouth, try show him. Take the food and put it in your mouth, take the food and put it in his hand then guide it to his mouth. Some babies don't pick up everything so quickly.
2: Nothing to worry about, I didn't get teeth till I was 16months and my baby is 12months with nothing at all!
3: My baby is at the bottom percentile for weight and mid. for his height. But he eats a lot, is a happy and content baby BH so I am not worrying about it. The dr may make you worry but as long as he is happy and not constantly screaming don't worry too much. Try giving him high calorie foods (meat chicken etc). Some kids are smaller and if you and/or dh are small/skinny/petite this can be 'genetic'.
4: Ds only started crawling at 10.5months old. Before that he just pushed himself backwards. If he is a boy sometimes boys are slower to develop. Your dr will tell you if he thinks his muscles are weak or something. But as long as he spends time on his stomach, can sit up and looks like he is making an effort to move around then he should be fine. I know a kid who didn't crawl ever. She bottom shuffled around till she was 2 then she walked!
5: This could be because he is hungry. Maybe try giving him a formula bottle before he goes to sleep for the night. Try not to take him out of his crib at night just put a bottle of water near him if he cries go and give him some then lull him back to sleep. At 12 months babies should be sleeping 10-11 hours at night and 2hours during the day.
6: As I said in number 1, nurse until you feel comfortable. My aunt nursed till she was 7months preg. As long as you have the energy, and the milk you can keep nursing. There is always the option to tandem nurse too.
You can also ask your dr these questions. See what s/he says.
Remember some kids take longer to 'develop' than others. Each child is different. Don't worry too much. _________________

| Th eonly thing thing that concerns me is his not putting food in his mouth. DO you mean he puts nothing in his mouth or just not food. If he is not mouthing any objects, I would check it out to se why. Some babies just don't, but sometimes it can point to a concern.

op here:
He loves to eat and eats as long as I put it in his mouth, however he will not do it by himself- he puts nothing in his mouth alone. The last time I waz at the doctor she said he was small but growing fine. The crawling thing she said average is between 8-10 months and as long as he moves around he is fine. He is a happy baby. He gets up abt 1-2 times at night to eat

| do not worry about the eating, my nephew didnt put food into his mouth till he was over 1, but my sister fed him loads, I come from a very medical family me included and we agreed that it is just one of those things that took him a little longer than other kids, no biggie, it as annoying for my sister he had to feed him everything but it was just one of those things, please do not worry, he will get there eventually
