| |
I'm looking for a puffed rice that's only Kitniyus and not Chometz mamesh for our Hampster for next year.
He didn't eat the raw rice we put in his homemade mix, but I need something dry for him, not cooked and wet.
Any ideas for brands? _________________ Really Awesome Mom!

| Why do you have to give the hamster puffed rice? I gave the hamster a little bit of matza, cut up apples, carrots, etc and some other things. The hamster seemed fine with the food she had.

We don't give ours matza. He's not used to things like that, and it's not good for him.
We made our own mix of sunflower seeds in their shells, pumpkin seeds in their shells, flax seeds, homemade dried corn kernals, dried lentils, and dried rice.
Treats were little cubes of apple or carrot.
He avoided the lentils and rice. Too hard. We'd like to find replacements for those as they balance out all that fat of the seeds, which he likes btw, but is not good for him in such large amounts.
Reason we need a very nutritious mix is because he eats it for about a month. He sleeps in the kiddie room, and doesn't eat Chometz once the room has been cleaned for Pesach.

dd fed her hamster alfalfa, broccoli, kale, zucchini, banana and other fruits and veggies. She tried escarole but he didnt like it. Oh, and before pesach he also ate snow peas. _________________ If you're gonna be blue, be bright blue!

Thanks shanie!
We like to keep his Pesach diet as similar to his year round diet as possible.

DD cant wait to go buy her hamster the packaged hamster food. She says getting up in the morning and coming down to get the hamster food is too much to do on a regular basis. (her room is on the 3rd floor). But she will continue giving the veggies as a treat-he really liked them.

Maybe I can dry out some fresh peas like I did with the fresh corn kernels. Peas are a legume right? Should have some more nutritional value than just plain veggies.
And maybe I can just break up some Kitniyus rice cakes instead of using raw rice.

This is what the cRc Pesach Guide recommends for hamsters:
HAMSTERS, GUINEA PIGS, GERBILS & RABBITS:
• Best to feed pure alfalfa pellets. Make sure it is pure alfalfa since it is common to add grains. Dried
alfalfa may also be given.
• Can supplement with mixture of cut-up fruits and vegetables - carrots, grapes, apples, melon, kale,
parsley, oranges, celery, dry corn, sunflower seeds, or cabbage. Can also give some matza. If not accustomed to these items, give sparingly.
• Guinea pigs will especially benefit from kale, parsley, and oranges.
• Hamsters will especially benefit from apples.
• Guinea pigs need vitamin C added to diet. _________________ Want to lose weight fast? Want to keep it off easily?

Looks like we'll be doing a mix of corn, peas, soybeans (all 3 dehydrated in the oven), peanuts, and crumbled rice cakes.
At least we know what he likes this year.
