My sheital macher washed a wig I was interested in and when she rinsed it some of the dye came out. She rinsed until the water ran clear and air dried it. The color after the dye came out was actually better for me than the original color. After it dried she rinsed it again and no dye came out.
But we don't know if this is such a bad sign that I shouldn't purchase the wig.
She called the manufacturer to ask about the dye and he said when they mass produce wigs it's possible that the rinse wasn't long enough for isolated pieces. The wig has a 6 month warranty but it doesn't include the hair color due to possible oxidization.
The wig is brazilian hair, 14" layered to 24". The price is on sale in the 500s and other than the dye issue, the hair and color (for now) are actually good. But is the dye coming out after the first rinse a very big issue? Does this mean the wig is doomed? Or is it somewhat common?
I'd love to hear if anyone has experience or opinions regarding this!

is this a dark brown, medium brown, light brown blonde or red wig? Its normal for water to have run off when rinsing dyed hair for the first few washes. and usually the wig looks darker immediately after dying and the first rinse than it will actually be after subsequent washes.
This wig will oxidize faster than a non-dyed wig. You may get a year before you have to dye it. The fact that its processed means the hair will be on the dryer side. It depends what you intend to get out of it. Are you wearing it all the time or is it a pony just going to be worn here and there?

Like the above poster said it will oxidize much faster ,but to slow down the process you can spray it with color guard anti fading leave in conditioner . I have a funky natural hair color and find that once they "fade " they look better and more like me.
FWI it will be 2 to 3 shades lighter in 1 year . so a #18 color ends up looking like a #16 .
I like fructus double care color shield detangler. _________________

waterbottle-- I'm not worried about it being dyed. any wig for that price is processed. I just never heard of a bit of the dye coming out after the first wash, so I'm glad to hear that it's normal! it's a light brown/dark blond wig and I normally wear medium or light blond so I don't mind the oxidization. as long as this doesn't automatically indicate it's a lemon, I'm ok with it, even though I'll be wearing it daily. I don't have the money for unprocessed hair right now!
shlomitsmom- thanks for the hair product info
hi-- according to my sheitel macher, it's a new line called avigael
