With the economy and business being so bad today, your chances of success are quite small, unless you have something no one else has, or something at half the price of the competition. The only other successful businesses today cater to the very rich, not exactly the Lakewood crowd. The most expensive baby and children stores are full of customers, while the medium priced stores are all crying. Jewelry is a luxury, and a business full of hassles, returns, breakage, and complaints.
There is internet competition, and lots of other competition.
Nowadays business is just not what it used to be.
I have been running businesses for many years, and still have not figured out how to get rich quick. The honest way.
The only way I know of making a lot of money is to *gasp* PRINT it...... and go to jail of course.

WADR, if someone had a business idea that would generate very substantial income, do you think that person would pitch the idea to a stranger on the internet, rather than pursing that idea herself, or pitching it to a friend?

If you are interested in operating a business, look for a need in your community, and find a way to meet that need. Expect that you will not be able to generate substantial income immediately. Indeed, you should enter into any business with the expectation that you are likely to lose money, or at best break even, for some time.

You will need to prepare yourself for meeting with bankers and other professionals whose assistance you will need in a start-up business. That will require you to speak English fluently and correctly. While all of us lapse into vernacular on the internet, and most of us have fallen prey to word correction software, you need to be wary. Typing in all caps. Apparently not knowing that "maybe" is one word, and "a lot" is two. Stating that you "love doing business," and confusing the words "competence" and "competition." All of these make you sound as if you are uneducated and incompetent. I assume that is not the case. Nevertheless, you will need to keep this in mind if you intent to operate a business.

Plus size girls clothing. The clothes in Jewish girls stores are cut so skimpy and girls and preteens who are heavier have a very hard time finding clothes that are flattering and pretty.

Do you have any talents or skills or hobbies that you enjoy?

If you run a business that you enjoy, you'll never work a day in your life:)

^^This^^
Be the store that sells all sizes and then the plus sizes for girls so they don't feel "fat" shopping at your store.

BTW, the last time someone asked for ideas, I told them to start a Groupon-type thing online and to my dismay a day or so later I saw Jewpon advertised on this site (obviously not the person I suggested it to). Laughing

Or maybe sell a line of clothing to the frum stores in town. There really is a need for such a thing. I'm trying to talk my SIL in to doing it because she is struggling with this.

It needs to be either sold to all stores or sold in a store that sells smaller clothing, too. I feel fat shopping at Women's Wardrobe because it's made for plus size women. It's a self-conscious thing and I know dd would be that way if we went to a store special for her.

Why doesn't someone suggest this to Junee? Or offer to extend her line this way?

Kohls, Walmart, and Lord and Taylor, and many others have a girls junior plus size dept.
They have many nice things at low prices.

Woow, sounds great!
I acctually think that a store that sells plus sizes for girls and woman could be great!
you know, a frum store, things like for Shabbos, skirts, nice outfits that you don't find at Kols or Wall mart,
I wonder if there is any Plus Sizes frum store in Lakewood?

How about Tznius plus size clothing for women. And I don't mean just to size 24. How about till 32 or even 34 or larger. I know plenty of people who wear these sizes & have a very hard time finding clothes because the frum stores don't carry them & the non jewish stores have very few options that are tznius.

As far as I know (and I've looked around) there isn't anything like that in Lakewood and I think it would be great!
