The difference is whether the picture has been posted online by someone already or YOU are taking the liberty of posting it. I would be royally miffed if someone posted my child's picture on a public forum or blog without permission. Even if I found a picture of a child on a shul website, let's say, I would not repost without permission.

the first time I saw a kid in israel dressed up as santa claus I was horrified. I went up to the mother to ask her about it and she told me that the kid was a gnome, a garden gnome. I started telling her about santa claus and she clearly had no clue what I was talking about! to some born and bred israelis it really is just a costume and has no meaning at all. similarly the red and green sukkah decorations and reindeer and snowflake jumpers or wrapping paper that I have seen here which I would never ever buy, are often sold and bought by the frummest people in the most chareidi stores. oh and how about the halloween pumpkin costumes? in a way I think it is amazing that for some people xmas just does not exist. I love how the day can come and go in israel without me even realising because there were just no decorations or billboards about it anywhere in sight.

How is this a culture issue? A picture you find on google the person in the picture has (hopefully) given their consent for anyone to see it. This girl thought she was posing for you, and you alone. Not everyone on imamother an the web. Please take it down, I would be furious if it was me.
