Hi. I am in graduate school for special education and I need to observe a student (any age) with severe intellectual disabilities for about 4 hours. I would also need to talk with the teachers regarding him/her for an assignment for college. Because it could be a child or adult (any age), I called a friend who works in HASC and that is not going to work out. If I go in, it would be as a volunteer and I would have to work as opposed to observe and document AND I would not be guaranteed to be with the same person all four hours.

I think a classroom environment would be better. If you want, I can pm you but I have spoken with quite a few people about this and would prefer that they not associate me with my sn, hence the anon post.

TIA

update: called the local public school and they don't have students with severe intellectual disabilities.

Anyone in Brooklyn work with someone or knows someone I can observe?

I worked with a Downs Syndrome child last year, I trained my aid how to modify the work and I probably can help you out. Feel free to contact me.

I don't know how severe you are looking for, but in Otsar's lowest functioning class, the kids are quite severely delayed intellectually.

Otzar is out. They can't do it. I left a message with shema koleinu. Any other ideas ladies? I'm getting quite nervous.

What about Sinai schools? I know there are a few in New Jersey, housed by local schools. They may be able to help you. If you need, I know one of the administrators and can possibly get you in touch with her.

What exactly are Sinai school? Thank you so much for the offer but I live in Brooklyn and I really don't have a way or time to go to NJ. Any of them in NY?

Dh works at UCP. I don't think you could get any lower than that. The high school classes are on an infant/toddler developmental level and the kids are nonverbal and nonambulatory.
