Agree with everyone else - people do this if their pipes can't handle toilet paper. (or if they are from certain countries/cultures).

What's the big deal about emptying the garbage? Just tie up the bag and throw it out once or twice a day.

Thanks for being so clear and repeating yourself. The first time didn't get it, but by the eighth time I was slowly beginning to understand.

we recently took in a couple of boarders - 2 little boys (brothers) from OOT so they can go to school here. We noticed that (sorry if this is TMI) when they use the bathroom, they do not put their used toilet paper in the toilet - they put it in the garbage.

just wondering - I have never heard of this practice before - is this common, and just my family doesn't know about it?

I thought it was really strange........and still not sure what to do!

if the boys are from israel it is not strange at all, until the stronger powered flushing came along
the rule was no paper in toilet.
I still remember the old ones (though I cheated)

We have had some boarders, I think that it is very good if you can be open with them and discuss even awkward things with them. Things have gone much better when we were very explicit about what we expected from them and were open to hearing what the had to say and sometimes, but not all the time, modifying our expectations.

So if you want them to flush the paper -- you need to be prepared to discuss it.

First of all, I read the title of the post as "Hoarders", not "boarders". So I was concerned that my reply of "If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down" might not be on point. Till I read amother's sequence of posts.

As for the boarders-with-a-b, you'll be doing them a favour by edjimacating them in the flushability of certain products.

Are you giving them tissues to use or toilet paper? In my home growing up we never flushed tissues because its bad for the plumbing system. If this is what they are using maybe they were brought up this way. How about hanging a little note on the door with what you expect?

my family's from russia. we always flushed toilet paper. I don't thing it's a russian thing. rather, a septic system thing or a bad habit.
