I put a sweet potato in the same pan as chicken in the oven, and found out after that the person who I borrowed the sweet potato from had gone to a levaya and touched the sweet potato before washing her hands. Can I eat the sweet potato? Can I eat the chicken??

That is not a kashrut question.

OMG…. I made hard boiled eggs, and I just realized that the eggs may have been touched by someone who didn't wash nitilas yadayim… what should I do??

Sorry for sounding mean. It's just, you can't control who touches your food.

A question that is soooooooooooo important should be answered by YOUR Rabbi/Rav not by a person on imamother.

this reminds me of a story when a couple had a cat as a pet in their house & the cat "by mistake" ate something that wasn't kosher. the husband ran to the Rav to ask what the cat is supposed to do now. how can he do teshuva? the Rav said he needs "some time to think it over". At the end the Rav said it was o.k.

Why is everyone laughing? Yes, it's a problem if someone touched food before washing negel vasser in the morning. I know the Eida makes sure all the kitchen staff washes negel vasser before starting their shift.

I don't think a non-Jew has any issues of tuma and tahara.

I know if someone touched food without negel vasser you can fix it by washing the food itself negel vasser, but of course that only works for a food like an apple or carrot - it wouldn't help for goulash, or, maybe a cooked sweet potato.

I have no idea if the same applies to someone who was at a levaya or just if they didn't wash since they woke up.

Ask your LOR - and it is not a stupid question.

Thanks. I wasn't thinking of it that way. I'll keep it on the oven and ask DH when he comes home.
And btw in the cat story, the rav took time to "think it over" so the couple wouldnt feel like idiots about asking a stupid kashrus question so they wouldn't be scared to ask if a real kashrus problem came up- ahem, this is for the people who made fun of my question.

Yes, that is true, however, most people wash their produce before using it.

OP, did you wash your potato? I mean, if you don't wash produce, there are other issues besides tumah.

Thumbs Up I am surprised that posters mocked the question: If you knew that halachically there is no issue, why didn't you just post a source? And if you didn't, why make fun? Confused

My thoughts exactly!!

And people wonder why simple questions are asked under the amother cover. Who wants to be made fun of?

And I can almost guarantee that there are ladies who read this that never knew the netilas yadayim issue-and now they know!

IMO, those who made fun of mizle10 showed their ignorance of some very important points of halacha.

It's no problem.
Source - The idea of washing hands after a levaya is a leftover from the days of tumas mes, but we are all tumas mes today, no way out of it. A newborn baby is tumas mes as soon as he is born as he touches his mother who is tumas mes etc. etc. etc.

therefore what we do in terms of washing hands after a levaya is symbolic but actually has no halochic significance in practice. Hence no problem halochically in eating the sweet potato.

If you are looking for a kabbalistic answer however, this is not what you want to hear, that's a different kettle of fish altogether.
