Oldest DD is 2.5. A few months ago, we bought a potty chair but we didn't push her to use it, we just had her sit on it fully clothed (so she didn't feel scared) and we told her that adults don't use diapers, etc.

At the beginning of December, DD announced that she wanted to make in the potty. She let us know fairly regularly, but it was a hassle to take on/off diapers, especially when we were out and about, and she let us know in public locations that she had to go.

So I bought pull-ups.

And apparently the pull-ups were too 'good' and they wicked away moisture so well that even with the butterflies that disappear when they get wet, she wasn't bothered.

So I put DD back in diapers. Immediately she went back to telling us when she had to go or within 2 seconds of requiring a change.

Two weeks ago, we prepped DD; we took her to Target, let her pick out a package of butterfly underwear, and talked about how her diapers were going to 'fly away' during the day. Well, this week we are down to only 10 diapers, so we told her again that she was outgrowing diapers, and that soon her diapers would 'fly away'.

Shabbos morning she woke up and insisted on underwear. We had no wet accidents on the floor or in her panties but twice she made a #2 in her underwear.

Sunday morning, same thing. She INSISTED on underwear and managed to keep them dry even during naps, but twice she had dirty underpants (and one time made a #2 on the potty).

I just put DD down for her nap (in underwear.) She's insisting on the underwear, but she's not consistently making a #2 on the potty, she's making it in her underwear.

Do I take away the underwear? I'm nervous that if I put her back into her diaper, she won't 'tell' until after she feels wet, but while she's in the underwear, she tells us with five minutes to spare (which is what happened before). Do I leave her in the underwear and remind her to make in the potty and just clean her up and figure that this will last a week or two?

Your daughter is still young, every child is different. My son was not ready for potting training at all at 2.5 years. He was 3 before he finally showed interest in using the potty and being able to "listen" to his body knowing when he had to go. My son was first potty trained for #1. It wasn't until the 2-3 months ago when my son was 3.5 years old that he started being ready to be potty trained for #2. My son still has accidents for nap or nighttime, so he wears pull-ups or diapers for those. If you're concerned about accidents, which will happen, you can always put on a diaper/pull-up and underwear at the same time. I often do that for my son, esp for bedtime. I just put the underwear over the night time diaper. Don't know what the best advice to tell you. Every kid is different and some kids are potty trained in a day and some take a year like my son. Continue to be patient, use lots of positive reinforcement (sticker charts are great!) and be as consistent as you can. Also, keep reminding your daughter to use the potty (I.e. every hour), that helps too. My son often forgets because he's having too much fun playing with toy.... etc. It will get easier, just give it time. Best wishes!!

you are only on day 3 and she is already staying dry, I say stick with it! she is doing great. everyone has accidents at the start thats part of learning. If she is still having accidents after 2 weeks then you can rethink if she is too young but at this point you are doing great!
