anyone here ever have submissions published in binah magazine?
I recently had an essay accepted for publication but I hate what the editor did to it. Its for the tu beshvat issue and they havent gotten back to me about changing the edits. I'd rather withdraw my submission than have it published the way they edited it.
wondering if anyone else had similar experiences. this was my first submission.

I sympathize with you, but unfortunately I was never lucky enough to have any of my submissions to Binah accepted so pretty much gave up sending them anything. It's awful though when they make big changes to what you wrote. Hugs!

What kind of changes are you talking about? Grammatical/tone changes, deleting a couple sentences, or radically changing the content and meaning? The first two I'd let slide.

well, they changed a few words here and there, combined some short sentences and broke up some long ones. those changes I understand (although I still prefer some of them my way but ok).
however, they completely changed my ending which kind of takes all the wind out of the sail of the story. and I had quoted something someone had said to me once and they changed those words too. that isnt so cool because it was what was said, not something I just made up. I guess I can let that go to. but the ending the way they did it is awful for me.

Yep, that's certainly a valid reason to be upset. Can't you speak to the editor and ask whey they changed the ending? Hear them out. Maybe it's a valid reason from their perspective? I wonder if anyone has ever pulled a story before. Good luck!

after lots of back and forth with the editor, we reached a compromise position. I still like it better my way Very Happy
but I understand that they have a magazine to run and want it their way. its ok.
it will be in the tu beshvat issue. I hope you all enjoy it if you see it, its about a tree Very Happy I dont know what title they gave it.

I recently had s.t published in binah and had a very similar experince to urs..they chopped off almost two hundred words! thats almost two hundred words I deliberated over and chose carefully...and changed the title and my name even tho I specifically asked them to write it a certain way and they said ok. I cudnt even read the whole printed thing-too aggravating to see all the changes. wtvr. annoyingggggg

just wanted to say writer to writer: I've been commissioned to write via posts editors picked up on this site. The editors of Family First and Binah are certainly around here and I bet Ami too. No magazine likes to see that writers will talk negatively on public forums. In a good PR move for yourselves, I suggest you tackle it with the editors.

That being said, I've been published in Mishpacha and Binah and I've had a very pleasant and professional experience. Yes, they do corrections very differently but in both cases I built terrific relationships with the editors and have gotten emails from them asking me to write more.

gosh sry dint mean anything bad just thought this was a safe place to vent...totally get that the editors havta do wat they do to get their mags to sell and do not hold it against them but that doesnt make it any less frustrating for us writers....
